Gryffindor win - 1st year

A lot of people here are giving dumbledore shit for making gryffindor win the house cup in first year. People have been saying that slytherin legitimately deserved the cup and that dumbledore was showing favouritism.

 I’d like to say something.

Earlier in the year Harry, Hermione and Neville lost 150 points for gryffindor for being out of bed. 

Harry and Hermione had been trying to help Hagrid get rid of Norbert (the dragon) and Nevil had been trying to save them from Malfoy.

Part of the reason that McGonnagle took those points from gryffindor was because she believed that they had tricked malfoy to get him into trouble. She then took points of Nevil for good measure. 

4 students were out of bed that night. Only 1 of them deserved to be punished. Harry and Hermione did nothing wrong. And to some extent, neither did Nevil.

My theory is that dumbledore knew this. 

Ron got 50 points for Gryffindor not only for playing chess, but also for sacrificing himself for his friends. 

Hermione got 50 points for being a bloody good witch and for being able to do what most full grown wizards could not. And to make up for the 50 points that had been taken unfairly from her, early that year.

Harry got 50 points for similar reasons to hermione’s

This leaves Nevil’s points. Nevil showed a lot of courage that night with Norbert. He went after his friends, and tried to do what was right. Even though he was clumsy and a bit foolish, there is no doubt in my mind that he was a true gryffindor. Nevil stood up to HERMIONE GRANGER, like I could not do that at 11. 

Dumbledore didn’t blindly give 160 points to gryffindor because he was an arse.

He returned 150 points that should never have been taken. 

And awarded 10 points to a boy who deserved them.

So... My mom just determined, for sure, that Harry Potter at Voldemort are related back to the Pevrol (that could totally be spelled wrong) family. You know, the brothers that met with death. So, Harry and Voldy are distant relatives.

But, with that, because Harry happened to be the chosen one, had Nevil been the chosen one, would we know if he was related to Voldy? Because he might be. There were 3 brothers. They may all be related.
