new 55 color.
Been a big fan/user/supporter of New55 and their 4x5 monochrome instant w/negative that’s been out for a while. This, their brand new 4x5 color print stuff is apparently resourced stock from the 20x204 studio, which I’m guessing has more or less the same properties as 803 8x10, 59 4x5, 669 3x4, etc....This stuff has the usual ghostly artifacts i’d expect from “experimental” or “art” stock in the developmental stage and/or expired peel apart. I struggled with exposure (says ISO 150 on the box, but 50 on the website, the latter being confirmed by a quick exchange on twitter). I was either a couple under or way over as you can see. Taking into account the fact that exposure times on my Aeroliberator (custom Graflex Super D) aren’t always spot on, it still seemed to difficult to peg the right exposure. These are all 5 of the 10 I shot or tried to shoot. One I blew through user error (simply the wrong setting on my overly complicated beast of camera). The rest got mangled or lodged or separated in my 545 holder (which while finicky in and of themselves, this particular holder has been reliable). My buddy Ben Parks struggled too with getting the sheet in and out, as well as other exposure issues, losing some sheets as well (but also capturing a haunting self portrait). So far as I could ascertain the envelope is simply too thick or wide? Shot these all in a hurry today, so, many grains of salt I suppose can also be sprinkled into account. Anyway, kudos as always for keeping the dream alive and psychedelic. Looking forward to improvements. Christ, I sound like Steve Huff, bless his heart.
I’m checking out the Martian Manhunter comic. Beginning Issue 3 and I’m reminded why I stopped reading the New 52. The Justice League fights J’onn for no reason, and turns out J’onn is a weapon of Martian Invasion who are scary and evil-looking.
It’s so angry and edgy. Reminds of this guy who asked me why I didn’t like the New 52, when it had Forever Evil and such cool villains. I don’t like villains, I like heroes; and I like optimism.
Also this isn’t Martian Manhunter. And this aren’t the Martians, Greg Weisman’s were much more interesting
had an opportunity to finally try some New55 pos/neg 4x5 instant film.
herein, some pos, some neg, mainly neg, check caption. BUY THIS STUFF. It’s haunting magic in a box.

Kickstarter for New 55, a new instant 4x5 film
New 55
New 55 is a project not unlike the Impossible Project. Yet this is to try and resurrect the wonderful Polaroid type 55 positive/negative film.
Check them out and help spread the word!
