I have been logging different examples to explain and understand the different roles we play in this life. I am currently a woman, sister, daughter, auntie (as well as other family roles), friend, partner, coworker, and the list builds. We need to focus on some roles more than others.

If it’s Meant for You it Will Find You

“If it is meant for you - and, will make your life better - it will find you.” This is a mantra I came up with for myself a while ago in times when I struggle with creative control. Because, see? There’s not much room for “control” when it comes to creativity. To me, it’s a lot more about persistence, connections, chance and magic. On the 3rd day of shooting today, I found myself sharing the above mantra with Nick when he texted me about an exciting opportunity that had arisen for him. As I wrote it, and looked around the set, I realized that this was EXACTLY the case of how I was cast in this digital series. One of my oldest and dearest friends in LA - casting director, Sarah Katzman @arahsey - referred me to the director of this series when he reached out to her...even though she wasn’t casting it. I auditioned with the writer and director for a juicy part - a bawdy broad type of character - but it just didn’t seem like a fit for me - so much so that after the audition, I told Nick, “I think that part is meant for someone else.” (It ended up going to @stephtolev - someone who the part was MADE for, I tell you.) I also told Nick, “I’m sure another part meant for me will come along soon.” I just felt very peaceful about it. I suppose it’s because I’ve always found that often it’s just the process of getting the energy of talent and creativity flowing to break the dam, thus opening up more opportunities. Well, that other part came along pretty quickly when the director called and said that he had another part in mind for me: a sassy stenographer named Macy whose main purpose in the script is to deliver some zinger lines and cutaway reactions. I felt like Charlotte on Sex & The City when she first sees a picture of the baby she’s going to adopt and says, “That’s our baby.” This was the role meant for me in this project. People always say when you know, you KNOW. And, this past year I have seen that a few times: with this role, with starting a company, and with love. Yep. When you know, you know. And, when you do know, you just exhale and internally say, “Ohhhhh. That’s what I’ve been waiting for.” I don’t believe there’s a better feeling than that. — with Sarah Katzman, Clarice McCoy and Nick Yedinak in Culver City, California.
