Natsu was actually very aloof during the first few months at Beacon. He wasn’t sure how his teammates felt about the Faunus, and he didn’t wanna find out.

When he found out that Lucy came from the Heartfilia Dust Company, he refused to even speak to her.

Erza finally had enough of his bullshit and demanded he speak to them. When that wasn’t enough, she envoled Headmaster Makarov Dreyar.

Makarov sat Natsu down and told him that if he didn’t step up, he’d be forced to demote Natsu from Team Leader.

Natsu finally talked to his teammates. He explained that his brother was a member of the White Fang, but he wasn’t. He wanted to prove that Faunus could move up in the world without violence.

It took Lucy a bit of time to come around to her team leader (and overlook her father’s racism that was driven into her) but she accepted him.

Natsu started waking his teammates up early, training them every morning before classes as makeup for his neglect.
