A/n: I wrote this snippet/drabble, half asleep the other night, in the notepad app on my phone, even though I said I'd never write for this ship. That's gone out the window apparently. 😂 posting for the amusement of @atcdblu

"Why do you even keep him around?" Crosby leans in towards his father, but his voice is anything but hushed, gesturing dramatically in the dimly lit alleyway. "He's loud, he's crass, he's sloppy-"

"And hard in all the places you're soft!"

Acapulco's grating, high pitched toned interruption is offensive to his ears as well as almost every other part of him, ringing shrilly from the other side of the alley. He's not nearly far enough away for Crosby.

"All for good ol' dad."

Despite himself, Crosby whirls around at that last remark, blood boiling, wanting nothing more than to put a bullet between the eyes of the mouthy little weasel. He can't do that. Not now that the man is on the Wolf King's - temporary - payroll, at least.

"Shut the fuck up! You're disgusting."

Acapulco grins, holding his palms up in mock surrender. "Hey, come on, I didn't mean it like that...or maybe I did..."

"You son of a-" Crosby jerks towards the smaller man but a strong, firm hand planted on the center of his chest has him stopping short.

"Easy, Cros."

Orian Franklin's calm, warning tone does little to quell the flare of anger in his chest, but it does get his full attention. His father moves closer, eyes light and fixed on Acapulco, but lips inches away from Crosby's ear, so as not to be heard.

"Sometimes, you need someone a little loud and a little sloppy in case things go south." He pulls back casually, smiling and patting him on the shoulder like this was normal fatherly advice to bestow on your youngest. "Remember that for me, will you, Cros?"

Understanding, Crosby huffs out a relieved breath that might have been a chuckle if he had dared. No, a laugh would give away his relief. A chuckle would disappoint. It would chip away at the trust he had worked so hard to build with the only person he shouldn't have had to, so an amused little huff and an almost unnoticeable smirk pulling at the corner of his mouth is all he gives in Acapulco's direction.

"Yeah. I'll remember that, dad."
