I took my bunnies to the vet recently for their annual and vaccines. The vet asked me about their diet. I said, "Unlimited hay, a salad with vegetables and lettuce once a day, and supplemental treats for digestion and urinary tract health."
She said, "What percentage of hay do you think they eat?"
She said, "Would you say they eat about eighty percent?"
The little Drax that lives in my head said, "Eighty percent? Of all the hay in the world? That seems excessive. What would all the other rabbits in the world eat?"
I stared at her some more.
My husband, who can look right down my ear and see my brain cogs at work, jumped into action.
"Do you think that around eighty percent of the food they eat is hay?" He asked, "I think that might be right, but you would know."
"Ah yes! That is about right. About eighty percent of the food they eat is hay. Sorry, I thought... I thought... long and hard about this, and the correct percentage of hay out of one-hundred percent of the food they eat each day is eighty."
