Okay annoying take- TLDR- but heartstopper and young royals are not similar at all… besides the fact there’s a main/focusing on MLM couple that look a bit similar, around highschool/ secondary school age.

WARNING SPOILERS FOR HEARTSTOPPER AND YOUNG ROYALS - MENTIONS OF ED,MENTAL HEALTH, MAIN CHARACTER DEATH, ETC

Wilhelm and Nick or Simon and Charlie are NOT similar at all besides their looks. In fact in my opinion Nick is more similar to Simon (besides looks obviously) with a Very supportive mom and a semi-absent dad. And Nick and Simon are both fluently bilingual. And Charlie and Wilhelm are … *kinda*? Similar but not really… the only similarity is that they both struggle with mental health but Charlie has bad depression / An ED, while Wilhelm deals with anxiety from being royalty and always being watched / depression from his brother dying. And the vibes of both series are completely different. Young royals is fucking sad man. (I love it but it’s still a sad series) while heartstopper is mainly about queer joy - and in the end of season 1 Wilhelm quite literally has no one, no friends and no family. (Besides maybe felice?) He’s lost everything because he chose to love Simon and he tried to protect his family. Which completely backfired and he lost Simon because he lied for his family who didn’t even care about him. While Nick is supported (besides his brother 💀) and has family and new friends(who actually like him for who he is truly is ) surrounding him and when Charlie is spiraling mentally like Wilhelm was , Charlie had the support from Nick and his family(after a bit and a talk with them) and friends. And while in the middle of the series Wilhelm originally had simons support when Eric died and the tape being leaked. But he lost Simon support when he had/ kinda chose to? do the interview and lie about the tape , and Wilhelms mom and August (his only family left really besides his dad) completely cover for eachother and didn’t tell Wilhelm that august leaked the tapes until felice found out and told him. Which sent Wilhelm into a bigger spiral. And I honestly can’t think of one similarity between Nick and Wilhelm /Simon and Charlie besides looks. I think maybe the series would be way more similar if Wilhelm wasn’t royalty but that’s literally the whole plot of the series ?💀
