"I bet we've all got a little voice in the back of our heads saying, "Be strong." I just want to remind us all of something real quick."
tbh I really dislike how aphobia tends to be discussed whenever there's some kind of incident that makes it visible to general society. The most common response seems to be some variation of "why would anyone hate asexual/aromantic people, they aren't even doing anything" and it just always sits wrong with me. It paints such a passive picture of our existence and feels like a comment influenced by the level of invisibility that aspec people have in society. Why would you be annoyed by someone who is practically invisible? Just go back to ignoring their existence, it's easy!
But despite the invisibility, aspec people are actually doing quite a lot of things that will piss off queerphobic, right-wing and religious people (and hell, even left-wing people). And the most obvious point is that we are actively not performing heterosexuality the way they want us to. People who's entire world view is "cis men and women should be in monogamous, heterosexual marriage and have (white) babies" are not going to lean back and say "oh but those asexuals and aromantics are fine". They will also hate our guts, and they will come up with all sorts of reasons, including insinuating we're all secretly into bestiality, or mentally ill, or not human, or attention seeking children. It's just plain old queerphobia, and like all queerphobia, there's no inherent logic to it which you can worm your way out of by "not doing anything".
And like, there's a lot more that aspec people do which people hate. Raising awareness about amatonormativity? People feel attacked, they hate it. Asexual people having sex? Or not having sex? People hate it! Aromantic people being in (seemingly) romantic relationships? People fucking hate it! Aromantic people having sex? Ohh people hate that!!
I guess the existence of aphobia can be confusing when you haven't spent much time thinking about asexuality and aromanticism, but in the end, these are identities that aren't heteronormative and they will be hit with the same or similar bigotry as any other queer identity. I just get tired of this response after seeing it recycled for 10 years without ever seeming to go any further.

Do Not Do This
Theyāre the brothers ever, they mean the world to me, so obviously the logical conclusion is to make them sufferā
It never fails to amuse me when I get āhello influencerā emails wanting me to push questionable products to my followers.
Like worstie, I can barely promote my own published book without wanting to curl up and die.
The fuck makes you think Iāll shill your discount wish shit?
Also, it's Tumblr. If I try to tell anyone about your knock-off Wish-quality sex toy thereās going to be a horde of Autistic lesbians doing a power point presentation in the notes about safe sex toy material and correct battery storage.
Which I am 100% down for, but it will not get you any sales.
I was trying to figure out if you were someone important on a other platform, because there's no way in hell anyone actually thinks you can be classified as "Influencer" if you have a big Tumblr blog.
And then also think advertising to this mob would be a good idea
There are actually lots of people who sell stuff successfully on here, usually drop ship stuff.
Theyāre just not disclosing it as ads, which they are supposed to do, and instead it's marketed in a very Tumblr-esque way which can be summed up as āomg guys look how CUTE this isā followed by a different account underneath going āomg found it!!ā and it links to a drop ship site with the item(s).
And the link usually has an affiliate tracker in it, which you may or may not be able to spot unless youāre familiar with them, which is also something you are legally supposed to disclose.
I used to get a lot of offers from around 2016-2020 to sell āmoon lampsā on here, yāknow those orb lights that look like a moon? Yeah. I was offered a higher kickback to make it look like I wasnt posting an add because these sellers know Tumblrites donāt like ads.
They wanted it to look as organic and hyped up as possible and then Iād just so happen to be like āomg you guys it's on saleā and post a link. Which is skeevy as shit and also illegal af in the US.
Itās like the insta/tiktok girlies saying ālink in bioā to get around saying āhereās a product I make money on if you buy itā because they want to sound like your friend because people are more likely to impulse buy stuff if a āfriendā is recommending something.
Theyāre also trusting that everyone knows ālink in bioā means āaffiliate linkā which is technically not enough of a disclosure but whatever.
This is why I tag all my own book promos with āaffiliate linksā because depending on which storefront you buy Hunger Pangs from, I may get a kickback from the vender which I do to help mediate the fees I lose from distribution. Itās not muchāliteral pennies in some casesābut Iām still legally required to state it.
Itās also why when I do post products I use or like, I make a point of letting people know Iām not an affiliate and not sponsored because despite the legal ramifications these people are flirting with by not disclosing their affiliate status, I want to be fully transparent with my followers when it comes to me trying to sell them things.
Yāall keep my lights on by reading my work and through my ko-fi and patreon. I am not about to risk that trust for the sake of some shitty vibrator sales from a sketch-ass drop shipper who wants me to pretend Iām not selling you things.
So, yeah. People do successfully sell stuff on here. A lot of us small indie creators sell our own work all the time.
But there are also drop-ship sellers on here who get enough of a kick-back from affiliate links to make selling cutesy kitsch stuff worth their time on here. Theyāre just making sure you donāt know youāre being marketed to.
Throwback to when I openly talked about this and got blocked by several huge āmemeā blogs that were actually drop shippers who didnāt like me lifting up the rock and exposing how they hide their ads in plain sight lol
Hey, Iām going to hold your hand when I say this, but if you didnāt realize these types of posts/blogs were ads⦠thatās okay! They are designed to trick you!
These type of undeclared sellers are relying on you believing that Tumblr is different from other social media platforms where the advertising is usually more blatant. They are also relying on your trust in your community not to put undisclosed ads onto your dash.
After all, everyone knows Tumblr is a sinkhole where profit goes to die and everyone hates ads. Why would anyone waste time doing that here⦠unless they can adapt what theyāre doing to make you think youāre not being marketed to, because Tumblr as a user base would never allow that kind of thing. Right?
Turns out, not so much.
Some people might say, āwell thatās just obvious! Youād have to be really silly not to realize it!ā
And maybe it was obvious to them.
I know it was obvious to me. But I also know I have enough online experience to play āspot the affiliate linkā and enough knowledge as a indie author about how those links are supposed to be disclosed by law, to know when someone is being dishonest and trying to make a post seem organic and not like an ad.
But not everyone has the same knowledge or life experiences to put the context clues together, and thatās why I wrote the above post because many, many, many people on here are unaware they are reblogging adsāusually while talking about how much they hate ads!
Youāre not dumb or silly or worthless or any of the unkind things some people are calling themselves in the notes. You just needed more information. Happily I was able to provide it and now you know what to look for. Go forth and scroll with newfound knowledge š«”

Iām sorry but I will truly never get over Ekko who lost his mentor and all his friends at a young age, then spent the rest of his childhood building a beautiful and strong community that helped get shimmer addicts off the streets and give them a new life that thrived off of trust, respect, and loyalty while slowly watching the girl he loves lose herself to her psyche and become an unhinged suicidal terrorist who he is unable to save despite repeated attempts at it. And THEN gets booted into an alternate reality where he learns he could have had EVERYTHING, the beautiful and thriving community, the education, his family, and the girl he loves and he heartbreakingly leaves it all behind because he knows he doesnāt belong there and he has to go back to save his people which he DOES multiple times at great risk despite knowing what overextending his z-drive could do only to end up completely alone in the end. The most selfless character in the entire series. Thatās my boy savior.

āI wanted Rhaenyra to be stripped of her adulthood by the time she reaches the throne. She finds herself in this position where sheās required to execute her fatherās former best friend. When someone has known you from your childhood, I think itās very hard to retain the jacket of your adult self. And again when she sees herself via Alicentās POV, thereās something of the two of them being children. This is also the court in which they grew up and the whole timeline is kind of laid bare between them in that look.ā - EMMA D'ARCY
