Hurt/Comfort
Creed held the mutant boy who is two turns smaller than him, and said nothing.
Every muscle in Daken's body trembled, and at the moment, an aura of disturbed pheromones surrounded his whole body. He lay motionless on Sabretooth's chest, clenching his teeth against some unknowable nightmares.
"What did Romulus do to you again?" It was a long time before Creed asked.
Daken still said nothing, the blood from his nose gradually staining Sabretooth's suits; he was badly wounded. Even in such a terrible condition, he resisted Sabretooth's embrace with all his might. Being so close, he could clearly hear Creed's heartbeat, so he knew that the giant mutant didn't really care for his wellbeing, he just god damn enjoys smelling the fear of others.
My friends were talking about the phenomenon of The Hat Man* at approximately 1 in the morning last night, you know when I, the person who is still afraid of the hallway because of a nightmare I had over 18 years ago, was in the dark back room of our house, alone... so while I've never experienced this particular phenomenon, I felt the need to draw it today nonetheless.
*The Hat Man seems to be a common/shared nightmare or often recurrent figure of a large shadowy man in a hat standing over people in their beds, seen in many cases of sleep paralysis all around the world.
The automative maintenance arms were all flung awake from their stasis, jolting them out of their sleepmodes. They twitched and sputtered, soft shocks coming from their bodies' casings..
All the AMA could remember from the attack had not been the act itself- but in fact the pain of it's databanks misfiring and breaking down onto themselves because of the damaged one. It cant even find a way to describe it- It was like if a part of your brain was wripped out and the rest was forced to function without the missing one for a bit until the fatal error shut it down...
All of the arms of the AMA that were scattered around the facility were scrunched up, shaking as their fans whirred and chugged along. Just... A nightmare.
... Since when did the AMA dream...?
--- this is why he hadn’t wanted mav to stay - to see the truth behind the cracked jokes and goofy smiles and borderline dismissive texts. when mav is looking at him now, nick can’t hide the bruised circles that tinge the skin beneath his eyes, nor the way his hands flex in and out of slow and shaking fists. it’s not that he hasn’t been trying to sleep, it’s that the grief that surfaces around this time of years has had other plans, holding him hostage in the space between sleep and wakefulness and folding time between the accident and now to make decades disappear. it’s in front of him every time he closes his eyes.
when he startles awake, icy grip of the pacific slipping from memory yet aching in his bones all the same, he finds mav sitting beside him. nick can’t decide if that makes it better or worse. but looking at him, taking in his stricken expression, something pulled taut within him finally snaps, and nick breaks. sleep deprivation, heartache, and guilt so thick he is drowning in it finally send him past a point of no return - distantly, all he can think of is how much worse this will make pete feel. “ wow, this is - this is embarrassing, isn’t it? man. just - give me a second, mav. ” heels of shaking hands are pressed into his eyes as they flood, shoulders shuddering as he tries to reign himself in. “ pete, can you - i need you to - ah, shit. ” [ @maveriq ]
wicked game
inspired by @drarrymicrofic‘s prompt ‘wicked game’; especially the line ‘The world was on fire and no one could save me but you’ | cw: nightmare | cw: implied past trauma
I’m late again but that line just didn’t let me go... so here we are
The world was on fire. There was only heat and smoke. Draco heard his friends cry out in panic and pain. His own voice muffled by the roar of the flames. He couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think. He screamed.
“Draco!” Strong hands grabbed him, shook him, finally pulled him free.
He sucked in a deep breath, filling his aching lungs with air.
“It’s just a dream. A nightmare.” Harry’s soothing words brought him back into the reality of their bedroom. He let himself be pulled close, engulfed by Harry’s familiar smell.
No matter how often Draco’s world burned, Harry would always be there to save him.
|| @lunafaeris liked for a post-nightmare Zelda ||
She was choking.
Dark hands around her throat, squeezing, crushing, filling the fibers of her spirit with malice. It pressed upon her soul and scraped at her willpower, and though she fell to her knees in this space where there was neither ground nor sky, Zelda did not fall. She did not fall. She did not die.
But she was choking and there were eyes, so many eyes, watching, waiting— so many whispers slithering against her ear, malicious, tender— always intoned with a single, simple command.
Give up.
She was choking, and she smiled, and told the darkness no, and felt it rage with waves upon waves of hate, trying to tear her soul to pieces, biting and clawing and screeching.
And then she was awake, her throat raw and tender— from the hand that dominated her, or from screaming?— and someone was holding her tightly against their chest. Their hair was long and their frame was just the right size to be Link, and for a moment, Zelda felt a jump in her heart. But then the light adjusted to her eyes and she saw the hue of rich auburn in place of hay gold.
Anton.
Zelda’s breath was raspy as she panted against his shoulder, her face pale and streaked in tears. She didn’t move. She didn’t want to. Against Anton, there was warmth and safety and a reminder that she was no longer in The Third Realm. She was flesh and bone and the war was over.
The war was over.
Wasn’t it?
The sobbing came suddenly, ripping out in painful wails that muffled themselves into Anton’s shirt. She trembled as she cried and tried in vain to keep her breath steady even as it gasped and hitched. Her arms clung around Anton’s waist as though he were the only anchor that kept her from returning to that place, and as she swallowed in an attempt to calm herself, Zelda swore she tasted blood.
Jesse awakes in the middle of the night screaming, his whole body feels like it's on fire.
falling asleep had already proven itself to be a tumultuous feat. not that sleep had ever come to him easily after the accident, the first time that is, but even more so now that he felt like he was watching the clock tick down towards not only the fate of other people, but his own. a fate he had resigned himself to and swore that it was the right decision, and reiterated whenever asked that yes, he thought he was doing the right thing. but it was fruitless and landed him in the middle of a world of pain and isolation and grief unlike any other, all while being surrounded by the same people he’s known all his life. the pain that rips through him in his sleep evokes a terrified scream, one that leaves his throat without a waking thought, his ears not even registering the sound of his voice as he throws the blankets off of himself. everything hurts and it’s hard to breathe. everything feels like it’s burning, like he’s on fire. thick, heavy tears immediately start rolling down his cheeks, staining the collar of his shirt while he struggled to catch his breath. despite not trusting his legs to work, they lead him to his bathroom where shaky hands turn the cold water on. sweaty palms slip under the cool water then run them across his face, and for the first time in several minutes he feels like he can breathe. jesse lowers his head to the sink, cupping water in his hands and flushing his face over and over and over again until he feels like he’s washed away the feeling of his nightmare. he finally lifts his head he makes eye contact with himself in the mirror, facial features illuminated by the dim nightlight along the wall feeling even less at ease than he had when he went to sleep.
