'Moomins will be gay now'
Like if ANYTHING is gay it's Moomins lmao it was created by an openly gay/lesbian Finnish woman and most of the character are pretty gender neutral looking
From wiki:
In a time when homosexuality was illegal in Finland, Jansson lived openly with Pietilä, and they were even the first same-sex couple to attend Finland's Presidential Independence Day Reception in 1992
Like... come on
Please don't push American political stuff on these European treasures. Sick of it. Moomins is deeply rooted in Finnish and Scandivanian culture, please respect her beautiful art
The same goes for other old European cartoons like these Dutch ones, Alfred J Kwak and Miffy or Nijntje and Swedish/Japanese Nils Holgersson and German/Japanese Heidi
We grew up with these and don't force anything on it that it's not if it gets popular or remade, I see Miffy/Nijntje is getting more popular too and idk how I feel
I have never been as sad about cultural differences as I am about the fact that most of you will never know what it was like to grow up on these.
(neither will today's children but alas)
Gae goose
I never talk about Nils Holgersson but it's very dear to me
Reading comprehension (szövegértés) teacher taught us how to count to 999999 in Finnish because she's also a Finnish teacher and as I was looking at the yksi, kaksi, kolbe, neljä, viisi, kuusi all I could think about was:
The fucking wild geese were just called one, two, three, four, five, six. Selma Lagerlöf you multi-lingual queen😌
(They were renamed in the cartoon but in the book they were called that)
icon of my childhood 🥹❤️ (
This is so CUTE I’m DYIIING
If you ever feel like you need to forever stick to a certain way of doing things, remember both Nils Holgersson and Tokyo Ghoul were animated by the same studio, and those two could not be stylistically more different.
