the story of the annunciation has fascinated me for years. something about mary, this teen girl accepting this random grand thing asked of her.

i've always imagined her terrified, not really sure about any of this. i prefer interpretations and retellings in which nothing is easy. she herself is complicated or has a complicated life, is insecure about her decision, remains insecure. or maybe she finds joy in it in the moment but regrets it afterwards... something about the complexity of life, about big things thrown at you, about circumstances that don't make sense... if a celestial being asked you to carry the saviour of this world, what would you say? something a bit cosmic horror even imho
