just watched httyd live action. there's a lot of minor things that really irritated me about the movie, but it was nice overall. it felt like watching the httyd1 for the first time again, which was honestly a great experience. i also liked how they showed more of snotlouts daddy issues.
but here's some things I thought id talk about.
1, the casting choices. I honestly didn't like a lot of the casting choices.
Snotlout was FINE AS HELL, nothing new there, but the actor doesn't actually look ANYTHING like Snotlout? I mean, they've got the same hair, but Snotlout in the animated was much more square-shaped, per se. the live action was much sharper in features, and honestly the only similarities I could actually find was the hair.
Ruffnut and Tuffnut were first of all, BLONDE(rip httyd1 tuffnut glowstick hair), and second of all, they're IDENTICAL TWINS. now, I'm not saying that I don't like that Ruffnut is plus sized—i do NOT give a fuck about that—its just that the twins seemingly had no similarities besides their hair color?? what was up with that?? I feel like they could've picked people that actually looked a lot more similar (again, I do NOT care that ruffnut was plus sized. I'm not fatphobic)
Hiccup looked NOTHING like Hiccup, and honestly didn't even sound like him either. Hiccup was rounder-faced, rabbit teeth, freckles, the likes. their casting choice looked absolutely NOTHING like him and that makes me really upset. AND COULDN'T THEY HAVE GIVEN HIM GREEN CONTACTS?? ITS IMPORTANT TO ME THAT HIS EYES ARE GREEN. THEY MATCH TOOTHLESS'S
Fishlegs was great, but again, WHY WASNT HE BLONDE!! GIVE MY BABY HIS LUSCIOUS BLONDE LOCKS BACK!!
Astrid was alright, too, but I miss her beautiful blonde hair 💔 and honestly, I wish they'd made her wear her normal blue more often instead of red. also, the actress was making the same face the entire movie? she seemed really bored. also, unlike some people, I don't give a fuck that she was a poc. which, I suppose means her hair wouldn't have been blonde, but I still miss it sighh! the actress is very pretty, though.
Gobbers casting choice was spot on, in my opinion. but he sounded British sometimes. which was kinda weird
Toothless looked really clunky, like his head was too big for his body, and he didn't seem quite so graceful like in the og. also, what was up with his wings?? why'd they change his wings?? the og design still wouldve worked BEAUTIFULLY in the live action, so I don't think they should've changed it. AND THE PATTERNS. WHERE WERE TOOTHLESS'S PATTERNS.
Hookfang. honestly, I think the design was pretty solid. his legs dangle kinda weird though. and I wish his head/snout was a little broader, like in the og.
Meatlug. honestly meatlug was SO adorable, in my opinion. but why did they make her blue? I mean, I guess she wasn't like completely blue, but she had a very blue-ish tint. her original color pallette was very cute, even though it made her look like a spiky doo-doo.
Barf and Belch. they were great, all in all, but seemed kinda stiff? idk maybe my phone was just lagging or smth. umm I wasn't paying as much attention to them so I don't have many qualms.
Stormfly was honestly great, but something that I couldn't quite place seemed slightly off. it was probably the fact that the eyes are much bigger in the original on the dragons and I'm not used to seeing them with normally sized eyes.
Red Death was amazing too. tbh I got a little sad when it's wings burned up and it was plummeting to the ground because then it was just helpless and uhm idk. very great though.
just like general pickiness I guess.
I don't like that they completely skipped over the scene with the little guys(I forgot the name of the dragons give me a break okay)where Toothless shoots one in the mouth. how did Hiccup know what to do with the Red Death?? it makes no sense.
in the scene where Stoick is using Toothless to get to the nest, WHY weren't Toothless's pupils slits?? it made the scene slightly less stressful and also just looked kind of bad.
in the scene where Hiccup is getting near-killed by Hookfang in the arena, when Toothless came to save him, they didn't do the night fury whistle? I'm fairly certain they did in the original movie, but correct me if I'm wrong.
in the beginning of the movie when Hiccup is like, introducing everything, he doesn't say "they have a nasty habit of setting themselves on fire" when he introduced the Monstrous Nightmare. which isn't that bad but it was one of my favorite lines so..
in the scene where Astrid sees Toothless for the first time and starts running away, Hiccup says "we're dead." instead of "da da da! we're dead." which really pisses me off.
alright I hope you guys enjoyed reading my nitpicking. if I think of anything else to nitpick about this later I will.
