Long Time, No See

I’ve been off Tumblr for awhile and just started back on this blog, this week. I’m trying to catch up on what everyone else has been doing. Feel free to fill me in, seriously!

Me? I’ve been recovering from surgery, still raising chicks / chickens / turkeys / etc., plus adopting kittens, and puppies. I’ve had to push back the Peace Corps due to the surgery and will reapply in the spring for 2018. Fingers crossed.

Last weekend I met Tumblr’s NJ Wight up in Pismo Beach. I’ve been following her wildlife photography blog #njwight since 2009 so it was great to meet her and spend some time with her IRL. Also, also a nice drive up and back on uncrowded roads while listening to the “Girl on the Train” audiobook. I need to get out more and just go explore, it’s been awhile.

To that end, next week I fly to New England where I will spend two weeks wandering and soaking in the culture (and hopefully some fall color) before my niece and her fiancée tie the knot out on the Cape. Super excited for them and excited to be able to spend a little time with my east coast family and friends. <3

I decided to sign up to study caterpillars in Costa Rica with Earthwatch this December, now what started as a 10-day down and dirty up and back, has blossomed into a meandering trip from Playa del Carmen to San Jose. Slow time for work, great chance to see the holidays from another viewpoint. Lots to see and do, very excited about it.

The USDA is seeking public comment on a Rulemaking Petition for the psychological wellbeing of all primates in labs.

The Petition, submitted by The New England Anti-Vivisection Society (NEAVS), the North American Primate Sanctuary Alliance (NAPSA), the Laboratory Primate Advocacy Group (LPAG), and the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) seeks to assure that current law regarding promoting psychological well-being has clear regulatory definition that makes non-compliance enforceable and does not leave interpretation up to the labs.  

USDA needs to hear from all of us, NOW (and over the next 60 days!) -   Lend your voice by submitting your comments in support of the petition to Establish Criteria to Promote the Psychological Well-Being of Primates as required by the Animal Welfare Act. Ask the agency to fulfill its legal and humane imperative to make certain existing laws actually do help protect animals in labs.

Psychological suffering should not be minimized or tolerated.  NEAVS will continue to keep our supporters – YOU – informed about the progress we are making for all primates and what YOU CAN DO to help!
