Imagine Jade (aka Death) decides to play with the Master's - and the Doctor's - lives a bit for entertainment reasons and attracts & locks them somewhere remote in a room to play a game (more or less like the trivia game from "The Long Game" from 2005) and brings people from all over their lives to "participate" the games.
The trivia basically works like this: Jade ask the participant something about the Master's and Doctor's lives. If the participant gets it wrong they get a penalty that will apply for the next round or two or three - depends on Death's calculation system.
The companions of course are extremely nervous and so is the Doctor (imagine 13th) because they aren't able to talk while another participant is answering - or else a penalty will be applied for who interrupted and who was supposed to answer until the end of the game. The Master (imagine Dahwan) is mainly mad to be trapped and have his personal life exposed in such ridiculous way.
Let's suppose that there are roughly twenty-five participants in the room including the two Time Lords, and for the sake of brevity let's suppose it's all happening from the Master's point of view. So, of course he doesn't know half of the companions names but he - as a little shit he is - can see familiarity in most of their faces. All of their faces except one guy, of who he quickly becomes aware of when the Doctor gives him a puzzeld look as if also trying to figure out who is he.
They form their suspicions but each and every suspicion one of them has are dismissed as soon as the guy starts to say all the right answers to questions that no one there would know the answer but the Doctor and the Master.
Suddenly it's the Master's turn to answer and the question is a bit different from the others.
Jade: How is the title of Death's Champion is passed on?
A) It is transmitted to the child, if there is one, of both parties involved.
B) It dies when the Champion dies.
C) It is passed on on random order.
D) It is passed on to the current Champion's child.
And, as odd as the question is, both, Master and Doctor, knew that this game was to play with their emotions. And that there are a lot of questions meant only to confuse them. So confidently the Master answers "B) It dies when the Champion dies." and - not that he would admit - but he never saw a more cruel smirk in his life than the one Jade gave him.
"Wrong answer." Jade would answer and instantly the Master would brace himself for a punishment but he doesn't feel anything and looks up to the panel to see what punishment has been assigned since he doesn't feel any different.
"Letter A was the correct answer." Jade would proceed as the Master read the letters written in red.
Punishment: double the successor's drum noise.
A scream echoes through the place.
In a snap of head everyone is facing the guy who none of them know only see him kneeling on the floor holding his head with both hands.
It takes the Doctor a moment to process but when she does she throws a desperate look to the Master who can't get his eyes off their son screaming in pain.
The Olympians were arguing about Percy's fate. Iris, the goddess of the rainbow, spoke up. "Pardon, but there is something we all need to see," Iris announced. All the Olympians turned and look at her. Iris waved her hand and a rainbow appeared. She focused and an image appeared in it.
It was a girl whom looked about 13. She was wearing a red and grey striped flowing shirt, blue jeans, and Nike shoes that had blue soles a red outline and the rest was grey. Her make-you-melt brown eyes were staring at a book. The girl was sitting on a window-seat two stories up.
All of a sudden, someone called up. "Get your dyslexic butt down here, now."
She turned and looked out the window. "Luke Castellan," that grabbed the gods' attention, "you are late. Thank the gods I have my Greek mythology book." She grabbed a black leather jacket. She put her book under her arm. "Move to the left, unless you would rather get trampled," she said with a smile.
Luke looked up at her and smile. "Katrina, don't even think about dropping on me?" He scooted to the left. "Why can't you be normal and climb down the vines?" he asked with a smirk.
Katrina jumped out the window, down two stories, and landed right next to Luke, on her feet. Katrina, then, turned to him. "A: if you would have been one step over I would have landed on you. B: don't be a party-pooper. C: there are no vines. And finally, D: I would never think about hurting your cute, little face," she said patting his cheek twice. Some clouds rolled in and the two of them saw lightening strike about a mile away. A cloud was just above Luke. A bolt of lightening was about to strike him. "Luke, watch out!" Katrina pushed him out of the way and landed on top of him. They both started bursting out laughing.
The clouds had stayed but there was no lightening near them. Finally, Katrina got off Luke and helped him up. "Thanks," Luke said sincerely.
"Don't worry about it. I wasn't about to let anything hurt your pretty face," she said with a smirk.
Luke looked at her. "No, seriously you probably just saved my life."
Katrina shook her head. A chuckle escaped her mouth. Katrina looked at the ground. "You know, that wouldn't have killed you, I saw the bolt. It's voltage was around 3-5. You would have just been unconscious and vulnerable. Plus, you'll repay me one day."
They began to walk somewhere. This time a chuckle escaped Luke's mouth. Katrina looked at him questionably. "It's just hard to believe you're shy," he explained.
Katrina shrugged and smiled. "I guess you've just got me to open up to you. By the way, what's Zeus got against you?" she asked. Luke got a guilty look and Katrina chuckled. "I'm kidding. The gods are just a myth. Plus, you know whenever I read a book I just get really into it."
Luke sighed I relief. He noticed her book mark: it was a lightening bolt and had the name "Zeus" next to it. "Is Zeus your favorite Olympian?" he wondered.
Katrina looked at him wide-eyed. "Gods, Luke. No! If anything, he is the exact opposite of my favorite."
Luke chuckled, looked at the nearest cloud, and smirked. It was almost like he saying "I've got her on my side. Just have to tell her the gods are real."
Luke took Katrina's book from her, and she let him. "How can you read this? I mean you're dyslexic, right?" he questioned.
Katrina thought thought for a minute looking for the correct wording. Katrina stopped him from walking any farther, faced him, and sighed. "Yes, I'm dyslexic. Some people, like yourself, let their dyslexia... I don't know control them. Well, I don't. I tried. And now, I read at an eighth grade level in seventh grade."
Luke looked at her in marvel. "You always were smart. I guess orphans are smarter than others," Luke said without thinking. He saw Katrina wince at the word 'orphan'. "Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot you didn't like that wor-"
Katrina interrupted Luke. "Don't worry about it. I need to get used to it anyway," she said trying her best to sound sincere.
Luke tried to raise her spirits. "Katrina, how far have you gotten in here," he wondered aloud, tapping her book.
"When you arrived, I had just read the part where Kronos eats his children," she shuddered, "really disgusting. You see the order of info goes from the gods to the level above them, the titans, then the level above them, then the level above THEM, then there is the highest level." Then she muttered, "well sorta" so low Luke didn't hear her. She raised her voice again. "If they were real, the Olympians would look kinda small, huh?"
Luke nodded even though his mind was a million miles away. Thunder rumbled. Zeus was mad Katrina called his brothers, wife, sons, daughters, nieces, and nephews small.
Luke grabbed Katrina's arm stopping her dead in her tracks. "You mean to tell me there are three things that can beat the titans?" He tightened his grip on her arm.
No matter how hard she squirmed around, Luke wouldn't let go of Katrina's arm. "Luke!" she shouted. Percy swears his grip tightened. "You're cutting the blood circulation off from my arm!" Finally, she broke free and fell backwards. Luke walked over and held out his hand. Katrina slapped it away and stood up by herself. "And people say I have anger issues," she muttered sarcastically, looking at hand outline. "That's gonna leave a mark."
Katrina began to walk away. Luke caught the same arm and in the same place: left arm, below her shoulder. She cried out in pain. "Answer me! Are there the things that can beat the titans and the Olympians?"
Katrina looked like she had had enough. She broke free again and let her anger and pain fuel her strength. Katrina placed her foot in front of his and pushed backwards.
Luke let go and almost fell on his face, but Katrina caught him. She twisted his arm behind back. "Yes, Damn it! There's more that you don't know. If they were real, there would be FOUR things that could most definitely beat the titans, possibly five," she clarified. She was about to put more pressure on his arm (that would break it, demigods should know), but pulled back and let go before she could hurt him.
"You've got a lot of pent up anger, huh?" Luke asked, seeing how she was about to pour all of her anger out on his arm.
Katrina rubbed the back of her neck and smiled nervously. She finally decided up give him an answer, so she nodded. Katrina turned around and saw a bar. She ran up to it, jumped, grabbed it, and swung by her arms. Katrina pulled herself up and sat on it.
"Hey, Luke, how old are you?"
"14."
It took a minute for Percy to figure it out, but he knew where they were. "They're in Manhattan. There's a pond near where they are," he said, happy he knew where they were.
Katrina smiled at her current position. There was a loud rumbling sound and the ground shook. Katrina fell off the bar and landed on her back. She stood up, brushed herself off, then looked at Luke. "That's not thunder," Katrina stated grimly. Right after she said that, a Cyclops came out of the woods. Luke went over to her, grabbed her hand, and pulled her away.
They were both running like their butts were on fire. Katrina was in the lead. The Cyclops grabbed Luke, so he dropped his backpack. Katrina turned around. "I can't believe I'm doing this," she muttered, rolling her eyes. She began to rummage through Luke's backpack, and pulled out a towel, a necklace, a rope, and an Athema (a dagger used for witchcraft). It was fully gray with blue rune (markings used for witchcraft) markings. "Why do you have an Athema?" she asked him as he was getting swung around.
"Does it really matter?" Luke replied harshly. "Throw it!" he demanded.
Katrina looked up at him with a face full of doubt. "I don't think that's wise," she said.
"THROW! IT! NOW!"
She still had doubt in her face, but she threw it up in the air in a circular way. She, then, caught it by the blade. Katrina chucked the Athema at the Cyclops. The Athema just bounced off the Cyclops, but it was madder than before. Katrina picked up the Athema again. "Told you it wouldn't be wise!" she shouted. She put the Athema in her boot, jumped up, grabbed, and swung on the bar again. This time when she got on it, she had to balance on the bar. Katrina had read all about Cyclopses. They had a weak spot just between their shoulderblades. Katrina had grabbed a rock when she had put the Athema in her boot. She threw the rock on the other side of the Cyclops.
"You missed!" Luke exclaimed.
"I never miss," Katrina replied. It turned around, Katrina grabbed the Athema, and lunged at the Cyclops. She managed to stab it in the perfect spot.
The Cyclops dropped Luke in the lake. It turned into golden dust, and Katrina out put the Athema back into her boot again. Katrina grabbed the bar again, and when she was calm-ish she let herself fall down, and she landed on her feet. Katrina tried, and failed, to hold in her laughter towards Luke. Eventually, she was on the ground. Finally, she stood up and tried catching her breath.
"Oh, no," Luke muttered, noticing where he was. He was in Poseidon's territory.
~*~
Percy's Pov.
My father had his trident in hand. He pointed it at the rainbow.
The water around Luke shot up until he was in his own bubble.
“Ok so, I've heard people say 'stay out of my personal bubble,' but this is taking it too far,“ Kat stated.
Gurgles were all that were heard.
“Too soon? Ok. Sorry. I'm working on it. You know, I think popping this bubble will take more that poking it. What do you think?“
More gurgling. She tilted her head in an understanding way. Kat grabbed the rope out of Luke's bag and slung it over her shoulder. She began running to a nearby bench hoping to grab Luke or at least tie the rope to his leg and pull him out of the bubble.
She had just jumped when a grape vine came up, wrapped around her ankle, and pulled her back to the ground. “What the-“ Kat was interrupted by Luke making more gurgling. She grabbed the Athema out of her boot and slashed at the vine.
“Ahhh!“ Mr. D cried out, holding his wrist. I tried, and failed, to suppressed a grin. The Athema must have affected him when he tried to interfere. “Oh, shut up, Johnson.“ I didn't even try to tell him my real name. To my father, I mouthed: 'See what we have to deal with! How is this even a punishment for him? It's really a punishment for us.' Poseidon just smiled, shrugged, and shook his head (not necessarily in that order). Dionysus quickly recovered and easily healed himself.
Katrina went back to jump again, this time the rope in hand. Her hand almost touched Luke when another grape vine went up and caught get ankle again. A smirk appeared in her face. The vine pulled her back down and I saw the rope stayed up near the bubble.
That's when I realized she already attached it. “Stop, Dionysus! You're doing what she wants. Look!“ I shouted. Mr. D looked at the rainbow and saw the rope. He stopped the vine, but it was too late. Katrina was on the ground.
She pulled on the rope, and Luke came out the bottom of the bubble. It poured down onto Luke.
“Thanks,“ he choked out.
Katrina was leaning back on a a rock, breathing heavily. She gave him a thumbs up with her head leaned down.
“The vine,“ he stood up, “how'd you know it would come up and grab you a second time?“ Luke went a sat down on the bench Katrina used at a trampoline.
Katrina looked at him. She shook her head. “I didn't.“
“You risked my life?!?!“
“Don't be stupid, Luke. I had a plan.“
“Which was?!?!“
She walked over and sat next to Luke. His bag was beside the bench. She dug through it and brought out the towel. She handed it to Luke. “If the vine didn't grab me, I would have been able to grab your foot and pull you out. Since it did, I used the rope. It was a full proof plan,“ she explained gently. Luke ran the towel through his hair. Katrina stood back up and faced him. “Ok. Pop quiz. What the hell was a Cyclops doing here? What was,“ she gestured to the lake, “that? And why did you have an Athema and a towel in your bag? Plus, you do know: if I didn't know about the weak spot, you'd be dead. The Athema would have been useless.“
Luke smirked. “Multiple questions- one answer.“
They both said it at the same time. “It's a secret.“
“How'd you know I was gonna say that?“ Luke questioned.
“All the time, you remind me of my step-dad. He would say that constantly.“ Katrina frowned.
Her eyes began to glisten when I realized, it was from tears. Katrina didn't seem to be the type of person to cry. She put her hair in a sloppy ponytail, and I saw a scar just a little below her hairline. Something must have happened to her when she was younger.
Katrina turned away from Luke to brush away her tears. She noticed five men in janitors' uniforms coming out of the woods. They spoke in unison. “We've been waiting for you, daughter of Hera.“
Hera looked startled. Maybe... maybe she didn't know. No! Gods know about their kids; plus she had to give birth to her. She's only acting. Maybe, Luke is right? No, don't even think that. I forced myself to look back at the rainbow.
Luke grabbed Katrina's wrist and pulled her away from the men. “What'd they just say?“ Katrina asked dreamily. He repeated what they called her. “That's not possible Hera is a m-myth, l-l-legend, f-f-f-fairytale,“ Kat managed.
“Tell that to the Hydra! And... the Cyclops!“
That snapped her out of her haze. “HYDRA!?!?!?“ Luke smiled at her finally back to normal. She sent him a smile as well.
“Aphrodite, Kat.... She doesn't... umm... you know?“ Hera asked the goddess of love.
Aphrodite smiled and looked back at the rainbow. She tilted her head as though she was looking into her heart. “No, she only likes him as a friend,“ she replied. The queen goddess let out a sigh of relief. “But Luke likes her as more.“
Hermes and Hera both leaned forward. “What?!?!?!?!“ they demanded simultaneously. In that moment Iris gave out. The rainbow vanished.
Iris leaned onto her throne. She let out a shaky breath. "There was a interference," Iris muttered.
