NoFlutter Burlesque Sailor Moon - Progress Write Up

I started with the corset, it’s the Yaya Han Simplicity pattern with straight and spiral steel bones, unfortunately it’s too big in the bust and fits nicely everywhere else. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  The white is ivory dupioni silk, and the bias tape is all made by hand from red dupioni silk. 

The Bolero started as Simplicity 1819 which worked pretty well, it just needed to be taken in in the back. I even used the neck from view A as my start to my neck. I doubled the length and added pleats, starting with a box and moving out to knife pleats, which get smaller towards the back. It is pretty sturdy on its own (also dupioni), but there is 2 straight bones in the neck pleats to keep it standing up. 

The Pannier + bum roll had been made for a different costume, you can find simple tutorials all over for them. The main blue skirt is a full circle skirt, the top blue/purple dupioni is actually just square pieces with a scalloped edge. Everything except the large gold trim is different colors of dupioni. Sailor Moon deserves fancy fabrics!

Here is the bow tutorial I used. The red butt cape is 2 different types of red fabric from Joanns, I did not buy enough silk dupioni and it was too expensive to order 3 more yards just for a butt cape!I It’s sewn to the blue skirt so it doesn’t cling to my legs, and was cut with a rounded edge so it doesn’t look square.

The bloomers are made out of a textured white fabric from Joann’s, not actually sure what it is called, the leggings were pieced together over top of a standard legging pattern, with power mesh in the middle so they look like they are holding themselves up.

I actually intentionally left off a lot of little trims in the photos, the trims I found were not shiny and looked kind of tacky (like on the bolero, oops) so I decided ot leave them off where it looked like they didn’t fit. I bought a ton of rhinestones to put on to give the gradient/trim look, but ran out of time to do those for Katsucon... Maybe I’ll add them

I had to borrow the wig from a friend, I super messed up and bought an Arda Chibi in small instead of large. I probably won’t edit this post when I make my own wig, there are a million amazing tutorials all over for it.

(The red butt cape was pinned up, sorry it looks weird!) This is the basic tutorial I used for my boots: http://crashcult.blogspot.com/2010/12/costuming-bootcover-tutorial.html. They don’t really like to stay up, but that’s what I get for my first boots. Why are they so wrinkly? Haha

The jewelry is spray painted silver moons I bought on Etsy. I also picked up the brooch and hair clips on Etsy as well. I also bought the gloves because making gloves sucks!
