I am still at least a little bitter that wq never got to stand in front of the great sect leaders (3/4 of whom have brothers for who they would (and have) go to Significant lengths to protect) and be all “oh yes how dare I *checks notes* not commit treason against and cooperate with my evil uncle and sect leader and keep my head down in order to make sure he doesn’t feed my brother to the zombie army he spent half my life creating in his basement”
That bitterness is justified! I think the problem is that Mingjue would probably have sent Huaisang into exile with whatever cash he could scrounge up and a fake name and died trying to take WRH out, Jiang Cheng is so perfectly on her side that he won’t really be on her side because he is at this very moment busy keeping his head down and protecting his brother, and Xichen doesn’t need to be convinced, he needs to be convinced it’s worth fighting with Mingjue about when Jiggy’s dimples aren’t on the line. It’s hard to make Xichen fight with Mingjue. Sometimes he cautions Jiggy never to make Mingjue angry again and goes to check the seating for the floral banquet even when Jiggy’s dimples are on the line. If she plays the “I’m a doctor not a fighter and I had my brother and also an entire villiage of civillians my uncle was holding hostage to look after” card hard enough she might be able to get a trial out of Mingjue if he believes her, especially because I do think Jiang Cheng will try the same play he makes in canon and argue that he owes the Wen siblings something. I think that duty he’d probably be at least a little sympathetic to, but one of the frustrating thing about him is that he thinks that if you benefited from WRH’s actions, however passively, you’re complicit in them, so Wen Qing saying she used WRH’s favour to protect her villiage might be counterproductive.
Jin Guangshan doesn’t give a shit what she did or didn’t do. She’s a political prop for him that works better if she’s evil. The smaller sect leaders presumably have a range of opinions, but I don’t think most of them are actually very motivated by righteousness so much as being generally mad at the Wen and willing to take that out on her while also having discovered the one (1) issue where Mingjue and Jin Guangshan are technically on the same side and speaking up will potentially land you on both of their shitlists.
TBH my take on Wen Qing is that a running a supervisory office is not a neutral position and in the interest of going along to get along she’s probably done some bad things, which, she can join the club. It is a big club, and the difference between her and plenty of other people who did some shit is just that she did it for the losing side, at least in the show. In the book I think she’s pretty on board with team evil, even if all things being equal she’d prefer to be not-evil and she’s sympathetic when the victims are shoved in her face by her brother. But that doesn’t mean she deserves to watch her family slaughtered so Zixun can have a good night hunt.
