it's not an art for the first time on this account. but there's almost no coral island community and I don't want to go on reddit so here are my headcanons for the dateables

details and explanations under the cut

I sincerely hate the playersexual mechanic in games. Coral Island is not as bad as Stardew Valley, bc it doesn't try to appeal to both queers and homophobes, but I still don't like that everyone is attracted to the player in the game. I kept most of the characters bi/pan/demi attracted to any as I can understand why they could be attracted to any gender, but still did some headcanons with everyone. Ig the only thing kept canon is Raj being non-binary

the difference here between bisexuals and pans is that bisexuals here are mostly leaning into some certain preferences. so: fem leaning - Macy, Pablo, Charles, Chaem; masc leaning - Theo, Denali

Noah and Aaliyah both being allies is kinda funny, bc in all honesty I imagine Frank being bi though married to Erika (they're bi4bi for me so)

Eva and Rafael are both written the way that if you want - you can interpret them both as trans. yes, Eva's full name being Everest but she prefers to be called Eva - could mean anything. yes, Rafael's and Pablo's parents messing up Rafael's name in letters - could mean anything. but I prefer to interpret them both as trans

I think I can't really justify Surya and Wakuu except for the fact that Wakuu is kinda cautious of the farmer at first, while Surya is just in general the "quiet guy" (honestly I just based Surya after myself and Wakuu after my fiance)

Millie does strike to me as someone who will read a lot of queer books (bl mostly), but still will be straight. she's a great ally though, I can imagine her doing queer section in library and her initiating the pride flag being on the community center

Agung situation still makes me very angry, but I am not here to start the discourse. I'll just say that aroaces who are flirty and comfortable in romantic relationships exist and so Agung can be one of them

Lily and Raina just vibe for me as aroaces. Lily with some reasoning of not really being interested in romantic relationships, Raina just because I said so (Ocean & Kisses update? more like Ocean & Platonic Kiss-Your-Homies update)

idk what to say about Yuri and Mark. Yuri feels a bit too on the nose to say that she's a lesbian with this name, but I'll just think that she's the lesbian goddess. Mark... I feel that it's kind of too obvious that he was designed with bear gay men in mind and official artworks prove it (also I actually didn't see straights romance him, so. you go, gay problematic man)

with Miranjani and Semeru I especially don't know what to say bc. well. they're both gay bc they can. uuuu I have a gay-inator

Idk what to say in the end, so I'll just share my ships that I have for Coral Island: Mark x Rafael, Alice x Noah, Wakuu x Raj, Surya x Nina x Lily (platonic), Scott x Charles, idk if Yuri x Leah is a thing but it sounds funny, Ben x going away from the island and never returning

Noah's "Meh, I'll visit the museum when it gets interesting. When they have giant monsters or something!" Man, I really do like you, but you are TESTING MY PATIENCE with shit like that, good goddess! I know the 'giant monsters' thing kind of does happen with the holo-dinos but STILL the amount of time and effort that go into getting the museum expanded even just narratively, from an NPC implied behind the scenes work, not to mention the amount of time invested as a player to grow the museum's collection... I know it's not that deep lol but just feels WAY disrespectful a line to be coming from Noah in particular, I guess.
