Summary: During a cold moonlit night you just couldn’t stay inside your home. You always dreamt of dancing in the ruins of a castle while the moon lit the area. So you decided to put on a nice dress and drive to the local castle ruins. Waltzing through the cold you hadn’t expected to meet someone else in the middle of the night.
A/N: I dreamt this for a while.. and I thought about doing it on Halloween.. especially now that I can’t go anywhere else nor celebrate it correctly... buuuut a friend will visit me and he won’t let me drive two hours to the next ruins.. maybe I’ll try it out early summer next year.. who knows..
Sometimes you felt like the odd one out. Okay, scratch that. You always felt like the odd one out.
Let's just be real for a short moment. Would anybody else have such a strange urge?
An urge to dress up nicely, preferable in a ballroom gown, drive to the nearest castle ruins, set up a small speaker box and play some dark sounding waltz. Just so you could dance to it and maybe even imagine a handsome stranger, who dances with you.
Another question. Who would give in to such an urge?
Yes, you did in fact give in. It haunted you for days, maybe even weeks already but you weren’t one to keep track of the time.
Since the thought, the mental image behind your closed eyelids, was too intriguing for you, you had gone into town and bought an elegant gown.
The fabric was tight around your torso but wide and plush from your hips and down. Mostly plain black with only one shimmering and glittering line of fake diamonds going from one side of your chest across your upper body and ending on the other side at the height of your hip. The dress was beautiful and you could barely hold yourself back on stroking the silk-like material.
Once you got back home again, you showered so you could start fresh and anew. You did your hair and makeup so it would fit your dress. You even twirled several times in front of the mirror after you finished everything, a dreamy smile never leaving your face.
You grabbed your purse, car keys and the speakers and left in the late afternoon to drive to the nearest castle ruins.
Days prior you had googled “castle ruins near you” and basically checked everything that popped up on the map. To your dismal most ruins were part of an outside museum and you wouldn’t have access to them once the sun had set. After hours of checking every ruin. no matter how small, you had finally found the perfect one.
A ruin a little outside of a small town on top of a hill and surrounded by a modest forest. You had ignored the fact, and actually still did, that these castle ruins were over two hours driving away.
Soft waltzing music filled the inside of your car and you hummed quietly along. Every now and then you glanced at your navigation system to make sure you were still on the right track.
When you arrived at a small parking lot at the end of a hiking trail towards the castle ruins, the sky got dark and the first few stars appeared. Once you turned around you saw the full moon shining brightly as well. Only a thin veil of clouds gliding in front of it.
You smiled, grabbing your speakers and phone, and left for the hiking trail. Surely people would call you insane hiking on top of a hill while wearing a ballroom gown, but gladly nobody was around to judge you.
About halfway along the trail your skin started to prickle at your neck, as if you were being watched.
You stopped, listening closely to your surroundings, though the only thing you heard was a light breeze blowing through the trees and their leaves. You turned around and took everything you could see in. With the moon shining through the crown of the trees you still could make out most of the things around you. But to your dismal you saw nothing out of the ordinary.
With a huff you turned back around again and walked the last part of the trail until the forest finally cleared and the castle ruins came to sight.
The pale moonlight shone brightly down on the few stone walls, making them appear in a stark contrast to the almost white looking grass around them.
As if you were in trance you walked closer to the ruins, one hand stretched out and gliding over the damp stones. “Perfect”, you whispered and turned around in a circle, arms outstretched as if you were embracing everything around you. The cool breeze, the quiet rustling of leaves, the moonshine, the clear air and the eerie feeling of being by yourself.
You smiled and placed the speaker on a smaller wall, turning it on in the process. You placed your mobile phone right next to it and started your playlist.
Once the music filled the air you stepped away from the wall and into the middle of the ruins. You closed your eyes, swaying with the sound from side to side before you raised your hands into the position they would be when you had a dance partner. You counted quietly with the tact and started waltzing slowly around the area.
You kept your eyes closed but you couldn’t stop yourself from smiling widely in bliss. This was exactly what you had imagined.
When you suddenly felt someone place a hand on your hip and grabbed your free hand, leading you to keep on dancing, you opened your eyes in surprise.
“I hope you don’t mind dancing with me.” The stranger smiled at you.
You blinked a few times, processing the fact you weren’t alone anymore and the fact this stranger decided to join you instead of making fun of you.
Your eyes roamed over his stunning features. The blond hair, which almost seemed white in the moonlight, his high and prominent cheekbones and his dark eyes that never strayed from yours.
“I’ve never seen you around here before.”
You smiled at him. “That’s because I’m not from here.”
He nodded slowly, turning the both of you around with the music. “A shame. I’d enjoy dancing more often like this.”
“You would?” Stunned, your eyes widened and your jaw dropped open.
“Surely.”
“Who are you?” You couldn’t believe someone would enjoy dancing in the middle of the night as much as you did.
The stranger chuckled and tiny wrinkles appeared at the corner of his eyes. “Excuse my manners,” he said, spinning you around once more, “my name is Wonpil.”
You introduced yourself as well, shivering slightly when he repeated it. “I assume you live around here?”
“You could say something like that.”
“How did you know I was here?”
Wonpil shrugged with his shoulders, waltzing with you through the night. “Guess, I got lucky.” He grinned and a row of pearl white teeth got revealed, illuminated by the moonlight.
You glanced down and noticed the slightly larger canines. Despite the unsettling feeling that started to grow in your stomach you smiled back.
For a while both of you just listened to the music and you let him lead you around the grassy area. Your dress swayed gracefully with every spin. Once again you closed your eyes and let yourself drown deeper into the feeling.
The feeling of his cold hand holding yours, the breeze playing with your hair, the music capturing your heart and the slight burn of your feet.
“You’re not afraid.”
You opened your eyes again, focusing back on his curious ones. For a moment you just stared at Wonpil, not sure how to respond to him.
“I know you saw them and I heard your heartbeat increase for a second and even smelled a tinge of fear for just a second. But you didn’t try to run away.”
“Pretty sure you’re faster than me. Especially because I am wearing a gown.”
“But you didn’t even try.”
“Why should I? You weren’t threatening me. And honestly, I love that I’m not dancing alone.” You answered him truthfully. Your eyes dropped momentarily. “You don’t mind dancing for a little longer?”
Wonpil laughed and his eyes almost disappeared thanks to it. “I can dance the whole night with you.”
“I don’t think my feet would be able to keep up that long, but I can try.” You laughed as well, throwing your head back from the force.
Wonpil pulled you closer to his chest and tightened his grip on your hip. “I’ll hold you up as long as you want to.”
You smiled at him and nodded once again. “Sounds good to me.”
