Blogging about Israel and the Arab world since, oh, forever.
The BDS movement is dominated by privileged white people who falsely claim to be doing what Palestinians want them to do, and when self-described Palestinians tell them they are wrong, they ignore them.
Mathlouthi did end up performing in Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Ramallah - and those concerts, for some reason, were considered "normalization" with Israel:
A Tunisian singer who rose to prominence during the Arab spring uprisings announced Wednesday an upcoming show in Tunisia had been cancelled for supposed “normalisation” with Israel. Mathlouthi, 41, had been set to perform at the Hammamet International Festival in Tunisia next week. “I am very sorry to announce our much awaited concert in Hammamet has been cancelled with no official reason,” Mathlouthi said in a statement posted on Instagram. “We believe that our latest tour in beautiful Palestine has sparked an unjustified controversy accusing me of normalisation.”
The best possible anti-Israel spokesperson - attractive, talented, and immensely popular - is being canceled for being insufficiently anti-Israel.
When a movement is built on hate, it eventually falls apart because the members start hating each other for not hating enough.
We need to stop feeling guilty about taking breaks. We need to normalise taking a (few) day(s) off. The world as we know it today, is so toxic that our minds need space and time to reboot and detoxify. And it’s completely fine and just! Let’s normalise this.
“normalise lying” “normalise being weird” learn to normalise your probability distributions first actually
Hey Guys,
I'm back.
I will post once a day. I hope you understand.
My mental health is still pretty fucked up, but I still want to write.
Thanks for all the support
Normalise giving compliments to strangers!
i think what some people don’t understand is when someone says normalize something, we don't mean everyone should do this. We simply mean that it should be... normal like it should be something that you don't pay much attention to because it's a normal thing. Like when people say “normalize guys wearing skirts,” they mean it should be something that a guy can do without others saying anything about it or staring at them. It does not mean they are trying to force every guy to wear a skirt.
The day I learned caedromantic was a thing (word for when you became arospec specifically due to trauma) was the day I learned recipromantic was a thing (when you only develop feelings if you believe the other person has them for you, also arospec) was the day I sat and thought and began wondering if I really ever had any romantic feelings or was just lonely in general, in need of more of a cuddle buddy than anything (not that we had those terms back then), and brainwashed by amatonormativity, just as I know I was brainwashed for a very long time by "discussing racism against Asians diminishes the struggle of real people" (quote from TV Tropes mods I argued with after I'd gotten over that brainwashing) and dated people who were violently racist against me, including repeat assault.
I'm almost 40 and this is what normalisation of oppression and erasure does. At my age, I should well know what I want, but I don't because of things like amatonormativity. I've heard of people coming out as queer as late as 90 because of different normativities.
