Lawd! I may need a Gordon Ramsay or Barefoot Contessa fill in as Momma’s dietitian. It was supposed to be broccoli cauliflower cheese soup. Which started off to a bad start because I threw her freezer burnt cauliflower away. No don’t go to the store for the cauliflower just use broccoli. Okay. Next she wants pea sized pieces of steamed broccoli, small cubes of potato that aren’t too hard and yet not to soft; think medium, milk, half a slice of American cheese, just the tip of a small teaspoon of powdered cheese, just the tip of a teaspoon (barely there) of sugar, and a sprinkling of pepper. Plus, it can’t be too runny but not too thick either so just a teensy bit of cornstarch. Oh and she decided against steamed Brussel sprouts in the soup but some chopped would be an okay garnish. So, then after a brief tasting. The pea sized pieces were too big, there was too much liquid, it needed more cheese, there was too much sugar, and it needed more cornstarch in the remaining liquid. So, after all those modifications I take her piping hot soup and frozen peas out to her. Auntie decided to pop down for a visit. Momma started with the frozen peas and is gabbing away. I’m waiting for the moment she calls to tell me that her soup is COLD! I’m gonna picture pulling a ‘Superfudge’, giggle, and go heat up her soup.
