So I decided to just skip straight past Halloween this year and dive right into Christmas - in mid October!! 😂😂😂

I’m decorating the historic house I work in ready for Christmas opening (hence the decorating at this time of year!) and because I am who I am I’m you’re all coming in this Christmas decorating adventure with me and get to see what I’m up to!!!

So I’ve expanded my Christmas tree numbers from 5 to 8 this year - which consists of one 6ft tree, three 7ft trees, two 8ft trees, one 12ft tree and one 20ft tree!

I’m doing most of this alone and so far all but the two biggest trees are up (I will have help to put them up as I need to go up scaffolding and big ladders so no lone working - safety first!) and have lights on!

They’re all ready for baubles to adorn them - they arrived today so I’ll start that process tomorrow - I’ve brought some really lovely ones and I’m excited to get them on their trees!!

I’ve constructed and half decorated half of the garland for the entrance corridor octagon - the other half will be done tomorrow and then get it hung in place - I’m really excited for this part as I’ve been desperate to hang a garland around the octagon for years!!

In the lower servants hall I’ve set up the fireplace - just the paper chains to install but I need to make them first!

I’ve been really busy with my favourite part - still a long way to go, but the staircase banister garland has been progressing nicely over the last few days!

I’m saving the dining room for November - because I’m expanding the fake food I’ve made in the past few years - pies and cakes and a lobster were a couple of years ago - this year it’s veg (carrot batons, potatoes and cabbages) and a fake cooked fish - made from paper mache and I’m so happy with how it’s looking so far!

The base paint is on now I get to start adding all the detail to make it look something close to realistic!!

I’ve got so much more to do over the next 5 weeks - the two big trees are a weeks work on their own and I’ve got all the mantle and bookcase garlands to do, set up the kitchen (it’s been packed away while we’ve been closed so I have to get everything back out and decorate it for Christmas - which is 10ish days work I think!) and do all the little finishing touches to hopefully make it look magical and like a Christmas wonderland!

I’ll keep on posting updates on what I’ve done and when I’ve finished the entire set up I’ll do a video walk through if people would be interested in experiencing a historic house Christmas?!!
