People who lord how many books they've read over others act like theory and vibes are two different things, when in reality "theory" is literally just when one individual's vibes gets a publishing deal. People make some accounts of oppression etc. popular but ultimately it's only because those people identify with and relate to it that they have any power. It's far from a hard science.

do you have any book recommendations for contemporary feminists who do good work? ive been reading a lot of theory from like the 70s, 80s, and 90s from books and zines and literary essays. and i thought man is anyone doing it like them anymore… it feels like the only equivalent we have is people posting articles to Medium, and navigating that is difficult for me. i’d love any recommendations

I don't read ~feminist literature~ lol, which one might say is the opposite extreme of people who fetishize it, but the difference is that I am aware of how that makes my perspective incomplete while the people who lean on their overblown idea of the value of theory are unshakably confident it means they know everything about everything.

I'm so tired of this discourse, I'm so so tired. A friend of mine mentioned that they saw a trans woman get death threats for saying 'trans men really are the men of the trans community' and the moment I mention that what she said was pretty shitty the mood instantly shifted and I didn't have time to clarify that I think death threats and harassment are reprehensible regardless before they told me the woman in question is a friend of theirs and it was a harmless joke that was taken in bad faith before ending the voice call we were in. I've clarified what I meant and apologized, but it sucks that because this a clearly a sore topic for both of us and there are hurt feelings on both sides, from their perspective I'm now someone who sided with the people harassing their friend, and from my perspective I'm now not sure if I can trust this friend to take my feelings about this infighting seriously.

I don't want to lose friends to this bullshit discourse and now I'm scared that's exactly what will happen.

It's not a harmless joke, if you can't make them see that you're better off without one. Speaking as a trans woman, while still affirming one shouldn't send people death threats, that trans woman sounds transphobic as fuck and you were right to point that out.

I have limits as to what I'm willing to expose Velvet Nation to for the sake of pushing back against that kinna thing, but I'll say any time you see violent "jokes" being made about transmascs you need to report that shit as hate speech violations immediately.
