I don’t know why I only just came to this realization now but in-game Itward is specifically made to be a friend to comfort children with mental/emotional health issues. He is a literal comfort character, he made a whole legit career out of it

Yall know me and my dumbass theories, but this shit gives me fucking, i dont even know
let’s start with the basics:

In the 2020 movie, they change quite a bit about Sonic’s powers. Firstly, it reacts to his emotions and makes him glow blue and makes him electric boogie woogie woogie. As well as making his eyes glow, witch has never been a thing before.
This is interesting because
the change of lore [they gave sonic a backstory, as well as making his powers non-commonplace]
the obsession with, although changing the lore, keeping sonic things intact [rings, the areas, etc. Although the lore is different, they kept the areas in tact by making them alien planets. the rings still do ring things.]

Now, onto the evidence.
The first clue was the, you know, glowing, which he hasn’t done previously. But really looking at the Sonic wiki and doing research on the chaos emeralds was really eye opening.
So quickly, i’m going to show an excerpt from the sonic wiki about chaos emeralds, than show you something suspiciously similar to Sonic 2020

(we can all agree in the games, Sonic’s never had UNLIMITED power, he wasn’t even a power source.)

The type of chaos energy the Emeralds produce is based on thoughts. Positive thoughts, such as friendship and caring, generate positive energies-

and negative thoughts, such as anger and hatred, generate negative energies-

But the most damming evidence of all, is hidden in plain sight.
Let’s talk about the sound.
Clearly the sound designers did everything meticulously and purposefully. The biggest example is the rings, who make the in-game ring sounds when dropped, picked up, and used. As well as Sonic’s spin-dash, which if you listen also has the in-game sound.
Using in-game sound effects was a HUGE thing during production, and that’s why I’m bringing this up.
This, is a video of the chaos emerald sound effect. When they’re around and powered they make this faint sound, and simmilar sounds when being used and whatnot.

IT’S LITERALLY THE SAME SOUND EFFECT I-

Now here’s the unconventional theory part.
Marketing/movie development.
Now, we can probably see at this point, Sonic isn’t the only one.
when Tails flies away you see a similar glowing line to Sonic’s, but a yellowish-orange. Hm. A lot like that one chaos emerald huh. Weird.
Also the fact that the emeralds power would be the explaination for Sonic’s, and Sonic’s power being non-commonplace that sets all the other characters with magical abilities-(silver, tails, etc.)-into a place where there’s need an explanation too.
Making Sonic’s power strange changed the game, pun not intended.
And this? Is, actually fucking ingenious.
First: It separates it from the games. It’s no longer a search for multiple McGuffins, and forces the plot to be different. It also separates the canon immensely.
Secondly: If the chaos emeralds are now characters, (somehow), it FORces in a reason to be re-meeting all of these game characters.
Anyway that was my fucking theory go watch the movie again.
