I rescued a baby out of a car today. It was a cool overcast day, so she wasn’t in any great danger, but she was very happy to get back into her mom’s arms.

She lost a shoe in the kerfuffle.

My girlfriend is so amazingly supportive. I really find it really, really humbling. No one, and I mean no one, has ever shown me as much care, and understanding, and support as she has. She’s just such an amazing girl, looking out for people the way she does. She doesn’t seem to think it’s anything special, but it so is. I love her so much, and I feel so lucky that I’m the one who makes her happy.

My favorite time every evening, is when I call with Lily before she goes to bed. We just talk about whatever; the stuff that happened during the day, or random subjects of interest, or maybe stories from our pasts.

And then she starts to get sleepy and mumbly, and she curls up for the night. And I hum to her, whatever tune might come to mind, until I think she’s dropped off to sleep.

It’s my favorite thing.

Another post in the style of @horror-hellabaloo

This is not really horror or Halloween related, but I’ve been thinking about this movie lately.

Ikiru is a lesser known Akira Kurosawa film, but also possibly his greatest cinematic achievement.

The story of an aging government bureaucrat who discovers that he has only six months left to live, and must figure out how to make what little time he has left meaningful.

It’s an incredibly powerful piece of cinema, as we watch a broken man come back to life, and in the end become a hero.

It’s the kind of night when you just need a girl to curl up beside you and lay her head on your chest.

Nights when my girlfriend is already asleep, and I'm staying up late, thinking about how much I love her, and how lucky we are.

Possibly the single greatest fight scene in cinema history, and it’s just 20 seconds of actual fighting.

No flashy fight choreography or beautiful special effects, just a beautifully set up and perfectly projected moment of cinematic storytelling. One man, at the absolute bottom of the dog pile, not only out-numbered, but literally outgunned, and pitting the human spirit against modernity and societal corruption itself.

This is why Kurosawa is rightly considered to be amongst the greatest film makers of all time.
