"I went to this organization for help and they did nothing for me. Yet they are using my op-ed from the Washington Post to advertise their fundraiser. They did not call or invite me to be a partner, but are using my intellectual and emotional labor to advertise their fundraiser. I know the Executive Director and I reached out to her for help last year. She did not respond. I phoned her today and one of the many things she said to me was, 'You don't present like you need help Taylar.' No I don't fit the stereo-type of a woman who spent more than four years incarcerated . I don't look like a woman who returned home and was housed with a violent roommate and became homeless. I don't present like a returning citizen who was fired because I wrote and email to my boss because I was being emotionally and sexually harassed as well as suffering discrimination by an employee because of my sexuality and because I stated that I believed certain actions were steeped in racism. No I don't look like a person with mental health issues. Tell me what do I look like? How do women like me look? But have you asked what someone who looks like me needs? I don't have the luxury of saying things publicly because I'm trying to get others to join me in this movement. Yet you use my work to raise money for your organization while erasing me. Ashley Mcswain you missed an amazing opportunity to partner with this returning female citizen. We justice-involved women do not all have the same needs.
