My Theory On Dean’s Death
TW: Death, internalized homophobia, suicide (this theory is based off of Romeo and Juliet)
So, as we all know Supernatural has ended and the ended was...less then ideal. From Dean's death to the party city wig that midage Sam wore, it wasn't the greatest. But I'm here to talk about the most disliked part of the ending, Castiel's love confession and Dean's death and my theory on it.
As we know, or maybe not, in the Spanish version Dean says "I love you too" when Castiel makes his love confession to him. But in the American version this was scraped for "Why does this sound like a goodbye" (if this isn't the correct quote, please correct me) for the audience in America, which is a completely different can of worms. Castiel is Romeo in this situation if you couldn't tell. Now that we have Castiel's part of the theory done, what about Dean? Well our Juliet in this Hunter Angel Romeo And Juliet, died on a nail as we remember. What if, like how Juliet, Dean impaled himself, not directly like Juliet, however, it was assisted by the vampire and he indirectly impaled himself. Now you may be asking: OP, how does this relate to Dean’s death? Well let me tell you.
In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo, upon thinking his love is dead, takes poison and dies then when Juliet realizes what Romeo has done, she impales herself, not wanting to leave the tomb without her lover. That however is not the only thing that is a parallel is the same. The forbidden romance is also another thing that is very similar to the now cannon destiel. But, you may say, there was no poison, or tomb, or dagger, or forbidden romance. But, yes, in a sense there is.
The romance between Dean and Castiel was “forbidden” in the sense it was a hunter and an angel, a romance that would most defiantly be looked down on by angels and hunters alike. Dean, as we know, is very much in the closest and was internally homophobic. We can tell this by the church confession scene.
Castiel’s poison was the deal he made with The Empty, then upon thinking that they will die when Billie will kill them both (but mostly Dean), Castiel takes the “poison” and dies. When Dean “wakes up”, Castiel’s death finally hitting him, he can’t take it anymore and lets the vampire impale Dean on the nail, just as Juliet impaled herself. This leaves the question: What was the tomb? Well the tomb was a barn, just as Dean and Castiel met in. Dean was unable to leave the barn, knowing this time, he wouldn’t be leaving without an angel in a trench coat.
