I've gotta hand it to NSLU's international marketing team, they managed to take a concept as cute and innocent as "The Princess is in danger! Wait — Luigi's gonna save her this time?! 😱" and turn it into one of the most genuinely unsettling pieces of media to come out of the franchise.

This doesn't read as "Luigi's filling in for Mario this time around!", this reads as "Luigi finally snaps and murders his brother in cold blood, forcing Peach to watch before turning the blade on her as well." It's beautiful.

No Ships Left Unsailed Rundown

No Ships Left Unsailed was an event running from March 21st to August 25th, with the goal of writing a ship fic for all 276 unique season 7 hermitships. In the end, seventy fics were written within that time period, by 24 different authors (including two anonymous fills, which were counted as different people). I, for one, call this a huge success!

The longest fic written was Standing By by TheNerdyTurtle96, at 6236 words, and the author with the most individual fills (excluding myself) was TheNerdyTurtle, with nine fics, followed by SugarsweetRomantic with eight and KornKob99 with seven.

Of the 70 fills, 43 were M/M, 25 were F/M, and 2 were F/F. Also included in the collection is a translation of one of the F/M fics, with another pending inclusion.

26 of the fills were, at the time of writing, the only fics on Ao3 for that pairing. At the time of writing this post, however, only 20 of those fics are the only ones on Ao3 for their main pairing. Does this mean NSLU encouraged people who weren’t participating to write for their favorite rarepair, or introduced people to new ships? Maybe. But it certainly made the fandom more inclusive of all readers, because out of the 44 fics what were not the first of that ship, a quarter were the first fics written for that pairing that weren’t rated explicit.
