Yay, I’m less lame!
Total of 68 floors worth of stairs, combined with the 167 ft gained during my Saturday run for a grand total of 892 feet of elevation for the week. Not enough.
More or less successfully completed my first week of nSuns (delayed a day due to a much deserved nap).
One taekwondo class.
Two Beat Saber sessions.
I CAN DO BETTER.
They should give the next Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm game the Smash Bros Ultimate treatment with its character roster.
This time no pre-order exclusive character scare baiting though. I’m not using all of my gas money just to get time skip Kawaki and time skip Boruto or whatever 😒
Question do you think Alex asking Maggie to talk to her parents in ooc? Because I just don’t see alex being “nice” to someone who hurt her loved one that bad. As far as kids I think I could see Alex as a parent and not wanting to because off her job.
So this is like the 4th or 5th ask I have gotten about Alex being out of character in 3x03, and combining them all is annoying, so this one is the lucky winner.
My short answer is: no.
My long answer is: fandom has focused on the wrong part of this equation ever since the spoilers came out. We’ve seen a weird fixation on Maggie’s dad and his story.
Meanwhile Alex, and the show, focused on the right part: how all of this affects Maggie.
Alex is taking her cues from Maggie on how to feel about her parents -- and Maggie’s feelings are *not* blind hatred.
I get that there’s a narrative floating around out there that you’re supposed to immediately hate and erase people who’ve wronged you and that Supergirl was evil for showing Maggie as still missing/loving her parents and hoping that they’d changed. Here’s the thing: that whole “burn the bridges” mentality being touted by some segments of fandom is exactly what Maggie’s mother did to her.
Maggie doesn’t hate her parents. She never has, even when we heard her briefly talk about them last year. She’s hurt, yes, and she hates reliving that period of her life because it’s painful, but -- hurt doesn’t linger like that unless a part of you still cares. And, as she said herself, her relationship with her dad was great up until the moment he kicked her out. People aren’t robots, we don’t just dump half our lifetime’s worth of memories at the drop of a hat. Those happy moments have lingered, and she’s spent years second-guessing and wondering whether she’d still have her family by her side if maybe she’d waited longer to tell them or done it differently.
And Alex gets that. Alex may be speaking from a place of incredible privilege (and a little naiveté) when it comes to parents and the bonds of family, but she’s also speaking up here as the person who knows Maggie best. Getting married is a hugely family-oriented affair, and Alex is picking up on all of Maggie’s hesitation and mixed feelings that are bubbling up. She gives those feelings a voice so Maggie doesn’t have to.
And if the suggestion to invite Maggie’s parents was pushy, truly? We’d know. Because when Maggie reaches the limit of wanting to talk about the subject, we hear it.
Not only that, Alex lets it go immediately when Maggie asks her to.
This isn’t even just in that scene -- Alex stays out of Maggie’s arc with her dad for the rest of the episode. Every decision from that point forward is Maggie’s alone.
What Alex did, and what people seem to be willfully ignoring, was signal that she would respect and support Maggie’s decision, no matter what it was, because her priority was Maggie’s feelings, not her own. And that was the thing that ultimately gave Maggie the confidence to not only go through with extending the invitation, but also to realize that she could finally let go of her child’s fantasy of a happy ending with her parents. She doesn’t need to hang onto that hope anymore, because she built something better in its place.
Today felt pretty good! I’ll definitely be increasing my percentages for the paused squats next week. And yeah, I skipped rear delt flies because I was dooone and ready to eat lol
