Nutritional therapy in action: Seasonal cooking is nutrient-rich & budget-friendly Edition! . Want to know a secret about how to get the most bang for your buck from real food? The secret is.... it's not really a secret! It's a place known as a Farmer's Market. If you don't already know, farmer's markets carry the freshest foods & produce from local farms. This means the middleman is cut out of the equation, saving you money & putting your dollars directly into the hands of the farmers utilizing the agricultural practices you want to support. For me, that means organic, biodynamic, humane when it comes to any animals, & most importantly, sustainable agricultural practices. How a farmer treats the land & food they're growing is more important to me than any government issued certification, so I get to know my farmers. After all, I'm putting my money where my mouth is! . How I shop my Farmer's Markets: 1. Look up which markets are available in my area that are compatible with my schedule. 2. Show up & shop around. See what's in season, on sale, and buy it! 3. Go home & prepare the plethora of super fresh diverse food. . Exhibit A: 2 LARGE heads of brocolli, 2 large leeks, 2 bunches of garlic scallions, and 1 bunch of beets+beet greens. ALL ORGANIC. Total: Under $20. Servings: 6 (@dj_saint & I really ♡ our veggies). . All I did was chop everything up, toss with evoo & sea salt, & pop in the oven for 45 minutes on 350. I even hung out in the shady back yard with my spouse & cat, & enjoyed some of the delicious fresh fruit we picked up at the market while everything cooked. Easy & rewarding for a double-win! .
