Another one of Aidan's MHS FCs is Nusu! She is a first-aid kit girl!
I mentioned in the past that I wanted to have a go at drawing my okapi and his giraffe and zebra fathers characters again a little bit ago, so I finally managed to do one here of them running against the African sun as a background (and yes, I was partially inspired by The Lion King for this image. :D ) I wanted to have a go at shading and lighting, so please tell me what you think in the comments. :)
I also thought of names for these characters - Mti the Giraffe (Swahili for tree due to his height XD ), Mstari the Zebra (Swahili for Stripe) and Nusu the Okapi (Swahili for half, in reference to him being like half zebra, half giraffe). :D I have some other drawings of them in the works I've been having a lot of fun drawing I hope to share soon. :)
EDIT: A friend on DA pointed out I did Mstari and Nusu’s hooves cloven as opposed to equine (not sure how I made that mistake, but it’s not I haven’t drawn equine hooves before ^_^;) so I corrected them. :)
Encore: One Brave Little Elly! *********************** This is a #repost from @dswt via @PhotoAroundApp (Hint: Watch this one until the end. You won’t regret it!) Three-month-old Nusu already has the bravado of a full-grown bull — as a rather surprised group discovered yesterday when the half-pint-sized baby decided to show them who was boss! • This scene is only a reality through our Orphans' Project. We rescued Nusu's mother, Nasalot, as an orphan when she herself was just three months old. Today, she’s living wild with her firecracker of a son (her first calf) by her side — except, of course, when he’s off chasing other elephants! • www.thedswt.org/donate • • • Video © David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust #DSWT #Nasalot #NasalotDSWT #Nusu #NusuDSWT #ithumba #ithumbareintegrationunit #whyilovekenya #kenya #africa #magicalkenya #savetheelephants #saynotopoaching #racingextinction #jointheherd #bekindtoelephants #worthmorealive #BraveLittleElly #BraveLittleElephants #BabyElephant #Bravado #DSWT #Elephants #Elephant https://www.instagram.com/p/BtAh_uchY69/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=88a440xgrm5g

Seen as I had this drawing in the works, I thought it would be a fitting idea to finish and upload this on Father's Day, seen as it involves Nusu the Okapi watching in awe as one of his dads, Mstari, shows off his strength by knocking down an old withered tree. :D (And I know I won't be able to get it finished for Father's Day, but I'll try to get one with him and Mti done soon too so he's seen bonding with Zebra Dad AND Giraffe Dad. :) ) A fun fact, my good friend @cartoon-and-animal-lover pointed out to me that a lot (if not all) of the African animals that I've been drawing are found in Ethiopia, so that’s giving me ideas for backgrounds and such to include in future pieces with these characters. (And thanks to my friend, he's been suggesting a possible story that could involve these characters, so there may be some updates related to that soon. :D )
Another drawing of my characters from my Nusu the Okapi series, this time of Nusu and Mpandaji the nubian ibex (her name is Swahili for climber), a character I drew a while ago and decided to implement into the story - https://duckyworth.tumblr.com/post/617039404910919680/been-looking-up-some-more-animals-id-like-to-have - or Daji for short (Nusu thinks her name is too much of a mouthful so he gives her a nickname😁 ) together. In the story, Daji and her mother figure, Shamba the Scimitar Oryx (her name is Swahili for field), don't really get along very well due to Shamba preferring the ground and Daji preferring to climb tall hills and mountains. Shamba has a fear of rockslides due to losing many members of her herd to one and nearly dying herself (and I'm thinking she may have adopted Daji and tried to teach her how to safely live in the lower plains, but Daji, being curious, began to venture out on her own), and after an argument, she ran away from home thinking she could make it on her own.... which is where she bumps into Nusu, who ran away from home trying to find himself. Daji is a rather confident and at times arrogant individual who is extremely confident in her own abilities (in comparison to Nusu who is more unsure about himself, shy and reserved 😊 ), but upon sympathising with Nusu wanting to find himself in the world, she nonetheless teaches Nusu how to climb hills, while Nusu teaches her how to kick and have intellectual observations of hazards in the distance (both things he learned from his two fathers 😊 ). In these drawings, we have Daji teaching Nusu who to climb (who is stumbling a bit), and Nusu teaching Daji how to kick (and it seems she's finding it harder than she thought. 😅 ) Later on in the story, Daji could have something happen when she runs too quickly up a hill and something like an avalanche or a predator puts her in danger, and Nusu could use something he learned from his dads to help them both out, but while Daji could thank Nusu for helping her, Nusu could reply that if it wasn't for her teaching him how to climb, he wouldn't have been able to help her, and they both acknowledge the skills each other has and respect each other's expertise. (I'm also picturing there could be a little bit of ship tease between the two of them 😍 - they're pretty much the same age and seem to be going through your teen rebellious phases, after all, so it seems they could relate to each other a fair bit. 😆 )
(Took a bit of a Tumblr hiatus, but here’s another upload of one of my recent drawings for you all. ;) )
Seen as the last drawing of my African animal characters was of Nusu and Mstari bonding with Mstari showing Nusu how to knock down old withered trees, I thought it would be fitting to have one with Nusu and Mti bonding - but instead of destroying trees, Mti is teaching Nusu about various plantlife. :D Seen as giraffes are pretty intelligent and observant creatures, I think it would make sense for him to be rather knowledgeable, and while Mstari would teach him self defence, Mti would teach him about what flora and fauna to stay away from and what to look for when it comes to poisons and such. :) And Mti is much less destructive than his husband, it seems. XD The plant here is rosa abyssinica, in case you're wondering. :)
