🦾Butch Yang Week Day 1: Bravado🦾
BREAKING: Donald Trump gets caught in a humiliating escalator scandal at the United Nations by whining about a malfunction— only for insiders to reveal that Trump's idiotic staffers were to blame. Our national embarrassment just got so much worse...
“All I got from the United Nations was an escalator that on the way up stopped right in the middle. If the First Lady wasn’t in great shape, she would have fallen," Trump whined during his General Assembly address to the United Nations earlier today. Trump had difficulties right before he speech, when the elevator in question stopped while he and Melania were ascending.
Video of the incident shows the two of them walking the rest of the way up the frozen escalator. For the exercise-averse Trump, the moment was no doubt a herculean task. The White House went all in on the imagined outrage, with White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt tweeting out a demand for an investigation into whether the elevator was intentionally stopped. As it now turns out, MAGA has hilariously overextended themselves on this issue. According to The Daily Beast, "someone familiar with the situation" has revealed that it was actually "someone in the president’s own entourage" who "accidentally tripped the emergency stop." As if that weren't enough,
Trump also complained about the teleprompter not working during his speech only for the truth to backfire in his face. “And I don’t mind making this speech without a teleprompter because the teleprompter is not working,” Trump said. "I feel very happy to be up here with you, nevertheless." “I can only say that whoever is operating this teleprompter is in big trouble,” he added. “These are the two things I got from the United Nations: a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter,”
Trump said at one point. “Thank you very much.” But a "person with knowledge of the situation" told The Daily Beast that delegations are actually permitted to "bring their own laptops and teleprompter operators." In other words, the UN wasn't responsible for Trump's teleprompter's woes, Trump's own incompetent staffers were. This escalator/teleprompter debacle is the MAGA movement in a nutshell: create a problem and then furiously blame someone else.
Beyond the complaints about self-inflicted problems, Trump's speech was a deranged soup of bravado and insults. He bragged about supposedly stopping wars and in the next breath boasted about his illegal murderous strikes on boats in the Caribbean. All in all, this was an awful day for the United States of America.
