The stunning Harris’s Sparrow (Zonotrichia querula) is an interesting subject. It is North America’s largest sparrow. This songbird is the only bird in the world that nests exclusively in Canada. John James Audubon named it after Edward Harris, a friend who provided Audubon with a specimen in 1843, while unknown to him Thomas Nuttall had collected a sample in 1834 assigning it the name “Mourning Finch.”
