Before learning Tarot, I would read @officialbicyclecards on the school bus and when we got home from school my sister and I would dress up and pretend to be witches, making imaginary potions and trying to hypnotize each other. We also had Oracle decks growing up like Animal Medicine and Doreen Virtue's Angel Cards, so I got into cartomancy really really young, and I loved collecting rocks from metaphysical stores, burning incense, and tagging along to the Yoga classes my mom taught in the college towns I grew up around. I first started reading Tarot specifically around age 11 or 12, after finding a deck tucked away in my Mom's closet. I've read tarot for myself and others ever since. Even though I'm a Tarot reader and obviously love my work, modern day spirituality is rife with ethical problems. ✔️I don't believe in twin flames or one destiny. The idea of "past life karma" to try and justify or explain abusive relationships. "That's just the way it's meant to be" is a cop out. Abuse does not happen for a reason. ✔️A psychic told my young mother that I had a "heavy karmic load" and that my astrological chart suggested a tough life.. but I've created a pretty ideal situation for myself if you ask me! ✔️A reiki healer told me at age 8 that I had an alien in my foot, which totally freaked out. ✔️A psychic told me as a teenager that I would not do anything with music in my adult life (though I was a music writer, played bass guitar and sang in a band in college and continue to play and make music on my own). ☕️ I've received some pretty problematic readings, but I ultimately believe in the value of a good reading. I've had so many readings that have lifted my spirit and encouraged me onward when the readings I gave myself felt murky, or I wanted a second opinion, or I wanted to support my friends and community businesses. I love the readers I engage with online and in person who are doing honorable, honest work, providing a space for others' self reflection and deliberation...
