This was a bitch and a half to make. Mainly because my old copic pens are finally dying after nearly ? 5-6 years of use. They are dry as hell and my poor white marker has all but died completely. Still I had fun with it. Going to have to buy some new ones next pay I think.

Traditional art made with copic markers and water colour markers on paper. As always I will be posting this up on my A03 soonish hopefully with some fic to go with it.

Just randomly remembered how Marvel had a mutant character (who wasn’t even arab) wear a kiffeyah with no explanation. I also realized Marvel would never let a character wear a kiffeyah nowadays… for obvious reasons.

NYX #4 is the best issue of X-Men they've released since the Fall of X ended and it's not even close. Everything about that book is coalescing into a conversation with multiple POVs where no one is right or wrong, and the rocky start was more because that's just an inherently difficult thing to start as far as linear story goes.

There is no other book as interested in its themes, as willing to talk to the audience, as understanding of capeshit continuity and of comic books' ability as a storytelling medium, and as confident that the conversation it's trying to have is worthwhile, that it has to happen, that we have to talk about what it means to have this franchise going on and on without end, ripping joy from characters that are supposed to symbolize struggle and justice just because that's the nature of it all, to look an audience in the eye over and over again and say "the ride never ends" when the ride is fucking systemic oppression.

It's callous when it has to be, outrageous when it needs to be, calm and contemplative and still action-packed and personal. It's the kind of book they told us doesn't work on Big Two: something more than just the incredibly pretty pictures Balám and Angulo draw and color every page.

Fucking please read NYX, it's so good. It's a book that looks you in the eye and says that if you have strong opinions about what you read, then it worked-- you can call it on its bullshit, praise its arguments or just go for a third, fourth or fifth opinion. It's Marvel telling you smart books still deserve a chance to sell. I am begging you to prove them fucking right.
