People who weren’t alive in the 90s really don’t get what a media-eating frenzy the O.J. Simpson trial was. I’m already seeing Zoomers here make hot takes about it only being a thing Americans care(d) about — but it really wasn’t! The case was so lurid and it was so clear he did it and yet the politics and discourse of it all was so wild that the whole world was eating it up, no matter how little they gave a shit about American football. You can watch Britcoms from the 90s (and like, REALLY British ones) that make quips about O.J. Simpson. You could go up to a random person in the street in Tokyo or Rio or Moscow etc. who was old enough to be watching TV news regularly in 1995 and they’ll recognize the name at the very LEAST, more likely able to tell you what they thought about it all. It’s not an America-vs.-the-world thing that some people on here who are younger don’t know who he is, it’s this weird incuriosity among a lot of very online people that acts like the world began in 2010.

when the opening credits revealed that oj simpson was in the naked gun i was initially very concerned that all of his scenes would age really poorly… turns out literally every scene with him in it is just him getting injured in the most comedically over-the-top ways imaginable, so they actually aged a thousand times better than i thought they would 💀
