In 2022 we're all re-evaluating. Employees are re-evaluating their career choices, looking at options, and making decisions. Employers of all sizes are reevaluating a lot of things including the way they do business, what their needs are, who and how they hire. Some of us in the digital and social media spaces are reevaluating how we show up and how we present our "personal brand" to the world. Job seekers are reevaluating their documents, application platforms, interviewing abilities, and overall job search tools. Immigrants are deciding whether to stay, re-migrate, or go elsewhere. It is a season where individuals are reevaluating overall life choices. A key step in this reevaluation process is taking responsibility. I like the interpretation of responsibility I first heard from @thedebrena Response-Ability. The idea is that "I am able to respond." This has stuck with me over the years. I am not a victim of my career choice or my employer. I have options. Taking responsibility means I can neither focus on blaming others for things I chose to do nor the consequences of those choices. The ability to act independently and take decisions without authorization also means we are accountable for the action, choices, or decisions we make. 2022 is the year of the "Great Reevaluation." I take responsibility for providing information, collateral, tools, and resources to empower 1st and 2nd generation to make informed career decisions and successful career transitions. As you engage in a career transition, it is beneficial to also focus on value. 🌟 The value you bring to an employer is in being an engaged and productive member of the workforce as demonstrated by your skills (soft, hard, and applied tech skills), mindset (EQ), and yes, job or "industry-specific expertise gained through experience or tenure." 🌟 Questions to consider when thinking about the value you bring to your field: Is the demand for your job and/ industry you're targeting, growing, or contracting? What does the industry or job value the most — the process or the customer experience? What oft, hard, and applied tech skills are you offering? What benefits will the employer derive from hiring you? What alternative options to hiring you exist for this employer? What is the evidence to support your capability and impact? What is the proof?
