Peace speaks quietly.
Storm clouds, shallow shelter, and quiet preparation before heading south. Heavy rain and lightning wrapped around us while we waited, watched, and stayed close through the night. Some moments are about seamanship. Others are about connection, skin on skin, and sharing the dark hours before dawn.

Portrait of a Seagull 🪿
Liugong Island, Weihai | The Island Where The Sea Breathes
You know those places that feel like a secret the world is keeping? liugong island is like that.
we woke before the light, the air cool and smelling of salt and pine. the sunrise didn’t just happen; it unfolded, slowly painting the sea in hues of gold and rose. it was so quiet, all you could hear was the gentle lap of water against the shore.
later, we boarded the panoramic bus, winding through tunnels of green, the scent of earth and trees pouring through the open windows. it felt like moving through a living postcard.
but the best part was the boat. skimming across emerald water, a wake of white foam behind us, we were followed by a chorus of seagulls—playful, loud, and free. they’d swoop and cry, hoping for a snack, making the whole sea feel alive.
and the food. oh, the food. dumplings filled with tender mackerel, so fresh they tasted like the ocean itself. handmade wontons in a clear, savory broth that warmed you from the inside out.
it was more than a trip; it was a feeling. a feeling of peace, of simplicity, of being a small part of a very big, beautiful world.
