Off Balance (Prologue) Next
When Earthbread was first formed, the witches baked the emissaries. Cookies meant to bring peace and prosperity throughout the land. These emissaries were known as The Herald of Change, The Fount of Knowledge, The Bringer of Happiness, The Virtue of Volition, The Knight of Solidarity, and The Wielder of Balance.
You, as the Wielder of Balance, would often help the cookies of Earthbread by helping them find balance in their life. You could show them the path, but it was up to the cookie to walk it. You often found yourself helping the other emissaries when they felt off center as well, not as The Wielder but as (y/n) cookie. Nights spent chatting over the hardships of being a holder of a souljam, or simply being a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on. You were happy to be there for your fellow cookies, you sometimes wish you were still there for them... A calamity struck Earthbread one day, one that threatened to tear it all apart. Even with the strength of all six of you, you weren't sure if all of you were capable of defeating this monster. As the Wielder of Balance, it was up to you to keep the scales of everything in perfect harmony. Yet, to end this calamity, you had to tip those scales. You were not worried. The Witches would see what had transpired and send a new emissary. If not that, replace the energy loss. You only wished that your friends would understand your choice.
Taking a breath, you tipped the scales. A rift opened, and you gave no time for anyone to ask questions or stop you as you cast the rift before diving in after it. You could only hear their screams before closing the rift behind you, before they could follow. It was an odd feeling of weightlessness when you exited the rift, Timelines buzzing all around you. The colors and lines melding into a mosaic of possibilities and what ifs. It was beautiful, you wished the others could see it...The roars and bellows of the calamity reminded you of what you were here for. Saying a final goodbye to the emissaries, you casted another spell. One that used your own souljam as a power source. Chains and shackles formed, quickly ensnaring the monster before you. It struggled and strained against its new bindings but nothing gave. You were happy your plan worked. The sheer energy to keep the spell up began to take its toll, your dough growing weak and your eyelids getting heavy. Closing your eyes and allowing sleep to rake you, you wondered who the witches would send next in your stead or how they would bring balance back to Earthbread. They always worked in the most mysterious ways....
It was a shame that one of those mysteries would be why they never returned...

There are tall tales of a sixth emissary but that is all they are, tall tales. The Fount claims there was a sixth but everyone knows of his lies. The Herald grows angry when everyone says that he is simply making up a story to cure his boredom. The virtue has long given up trying to convince the other cookies, finding a meaningless endeavor. The bringer is seen preparing her garden day in and day out for someone, often claiming, "They will be tired when they return." The Knight has gone quiet, knowing his questions will go unanswered, he sees no use in asking.
