George Sloan is a metahuman who possesses the ability to create inter-dimensional rifts that allow himself and others (including his car) to travel just about anywhere.  He is additionally a highly skilled wheel-man and mechanic who has spent countless hours modifying his classic hotrod.  With the nature of his powers and love of cars, George chose ‘Off-Ramp’ as his superhero alias.  

He ended up joining the team of super powered individuals called The Young Heroes, acting primarily as the squad’s mode of transportation (a matter that offer irritated him in that he did not care for being thought of as merely a chauffeur).  This coupled with his irascible demeanor and frequent use of foul language led the Young Heroes to see him as something of a lovable curmudgeon. 

George has a daughter from a relationship in his early adulthood.  He doesn’t have custody of her, but uses his powers to visit her as often as he can.  Early on in his time with The young Heroes, George developed something of a fixation with the team’s leader, Hard Drive.  It appeared to be his first male crush and was a matter that seemed to make him quite uncomfortable.  His other teammate, Frostbite, noticed this and teased George over the matter mercilessly.  There was a good deal of flirtation in this teasing and, following something of a drawn-out courtship, George and Frostbite became a couple. 

The hero first appeared in the pages of Young Heroes in Love #1 (1997).

AND NOW-I present “Young Heroes in Love”-the comic book DC PROBABLY wants you to forget!

If the discarded clothes and bed scene doesn’t point it out, a LARGE portion of this book is about fucking. He’s fucking her, she’s fucking him, he thinks he fucked this lady but TWIST-she’s a SHAPE SHIFTER(which we really need to stop doing, its rape people).

And an erotic superhero story in and of itself isn’t bad, nor is it NEW....but late stage in the game we reveal two of the male characters Frostbite and Off-ramp  are attracted to each other...and...yeah it is not written well.

Here’s what I’m talking about:

NOW-this scene starts off BAD with Frostbite not only trying to confront Off-ramp about his feelings despite not wanting to, but ALSO Off-Ramp bringing up the VERY good point about how he’s in a relationship with Bonfire. THAT in and of is problematic in that it implies that LGBTPAQ people are sexual deviants, but OH-HO man...it gets WORSE.

...yeah...you read that right folks. Without Off-ramp’s consent, Frostbite pinches his butt MERELY on the premise of supposed feelings. And the scene itself is pretty much going “TEE-HEE, its funny because he’s queer!” And the worst part about it is, the character is NEVER called out for touching him inappropriately SOLELY because of the mutual attraction. 

Going in I thought it was an interesting book, being more of an interpersonal superhero story rather than a big action one, but by the end the writer tried tackling subjects they clearly didn’t know of in sexuality and mental disorders and it just ended up falling FLAT.

SO YEAH-while the book has some good CONCEPTS to it...I’m fully understanding of why DC wants to forget this completely. It also makes me see...LITERALLY every modern comic book I’m reading that I felt ain’t up to snuff seem VASTLY better because of this book. Everything goes up a notch due to this comic.

Bygone Biographies of Forgotten Friends

Georgio/George Sloane aka Off-Ramp

George Sloane is a bisexual Italian superhero that has the power to jump through space through portals he calls 'ramps'. 

Little is known about his time before joining the team 'Young Heroes', but it is learned that he had a child with another Italian woman (although she soon threw him out for unknown reasons), and he seems to be associated with (and possibly come from) a group of dimension jumpers. The other dimension jumpers, however, jump through alternate dimensions, and complain that he refuses to leave the 3D plane with them.

He has a crush on fellow teammate Hard Drive, however soon gets over his crush in favor of his attraction to Frostbite. While the two talk out their mutual attraction to each other, they admit they're not ready for a relationship, especially since Frostbite is currently dating fellow teammate Bonfire.

Off-Ramp is the main 'travel guy' for Young Heroes as he's the teleporter, and he's good friends with all of his teammates, especially with Monstergirl.
