The beauty of her heart is immeasurable! ❤ ____________________________ The inspiration behind this piece: My four-year-old daughter (eldest of three girls). It seems like people have commented on my daughter's hair first her whole life thus far. Mostly praises of her beautiful hair, but I have learned that even too much "positive" emphasis on hair or anything physical can begin to chip away at a child's self-image and understanding of themselves as a whole person. During our (natural) styling routines, she would often tell me she liked her big curly hair, but when she started Pre-K last year I noticed her attitude shifting from loving her own hair to wanting blonde and straight hair like her friend or short hair like her teacher. I attributed this mainly to the fact that she didn't see children in her classroom who looked much like her. It concerned me to see my daughter losing confidence in her own unique beauty at such a young age. As her Mother, I have made it a personal goal of mine to reshape her perception of self-image by speaking with her about how everyone is created beautifully different and also teaching her the concept of inner beauty. These lessons are gradual and continuous.
