Other than ruining Jaime's character arc, the show also didn't do justice to how good a swordsman Jaime is in the books.

Yeah, show!Jaime never felt like a warrior legend in the show, before he lost his hand. Didn’t they have Ned keep up with him in a fight? If I’m remembering correctly, that actually happened, and like … no, lol. Not happening in the books.
But, to be fair, (and I’m not really being fair, I’m just being funny) book 1 Jaime spends less time being a badass swordfighter and more time losing tourneys, falling and hitting his head in cartoonish ways, flirting with Ned, and putting his Bachelor’s Theatre degree to work by dramatically setting the scene to murder all of Ned’s friends in the most dramatic way possible … all while doing a hair flip. Dramatically. Like, at this point, on rereads it’s hard to see him as this ~badass~ in the books too, kinda. Or maybe I just love him so much at this point that I just see him as more hilarious than this FEARSOME WARRIOR THAT MUST NOT BE FUCKED WITH. Like, no. He’s a silly, extra, bisexual Cub who tries to be cool but just shows how dorky he is in the process. And he fights good when he’s not putting on murderous plays. That’s all.
Ironically, though, in the show, Jaime is a pretty good swordsman after losing his hand. He fought a lot of wights in the Mildly Inconvenient Evening, Dothraki in s7, and the Dornish in the storyline that shall not be named. He’s fearsome. He’s not to be trifled with. He’s Jaime One-Hand, swordfighter extraordinaire, because it’s not like his arc is supposed to heavily involve him coping and struggling with his newfound disability. It’s not like losing his hand, and his swordfighting ability was a big deal because it forced him to self reflect on himself as a person and use his brain to solve his problems instead of his brawn. Nope. Not important at all. Larry trained with Bronn for a while, so he’s cool now. He fight GUD.
So, yeah. Show!Jaime, with one hand, is a pretty good fighter. Book!Jaime could never. He would just, you know, act like someone that just lost their dominant hand a few years ago.
