I love how genetics is treated in asoiaf because like, cersei having 3 blonde kids after the baratheon line had routinely been dark haired etc was considered proof enough of Robert not being their father to Ned and Jon, but meanwhile ned himself had 4 red haired kids and no-one side eyed it despite that being a hell of alot more improbable then the whole blonde kid situation lmao
When you are dead, when all you could not do
Leaves quiet the worn hands, the weary head,
Asking not any service more of you,
Requiting you with peace, when you are dead:
When, like a robe, you lay your body by,
Unloosed at last: — how worn, and soiled, and frayed!
Is it not pleasant just to let it lie
Unused, and be moth-eaten in the shade?
Folding earth’s silence round you like a shroud,
Will you just know that what you have is best:
Thus to have slipped unfamous from the crowd;
Thus having failed and failed, to be at rest?
Or having not to know? Yet O my Dear,
Since to be quit of self is to be blest
To cheat the world, and leave no imprint here:
— Is this not best?
~ T. E. LAWRENCE
An unpublished poem, transcript by Victoria Ocampo
(whose biography of TE is still on my reading list)
I finally started reading my copy of the Shaw/Lawrence translation of the Odyssey, and his note at the front is beautiful and I could read his analysis of Homer all day, but then I got to: "He is all adrift when it comes to fighting, and had not seen deaths in battle."
Oh Ned.
He could tell.
what really makes me cry is how proud ned would be of his children. of bran, following in his father’s footsteps and dedicating his life to serving the realm. of sansa, taking care of the north and her people, loving them as fiercely as ned. of arya, restless and curious, voyaging where no man ever had, for her father who couldn’t bear to leave the north. of jon, who did what ned did: playing the role of father figure and protector to those who needed it most.

Nervous Wreck
Too tired to be a nervous wreck
Distracting yourself from your own misery with indignation on behalf of other people
Life is pretty okay, actually
Motorcycles! :D
Random thought: the bathtub and hot water in Clouds Hill were not just one of the few luxuries Lawrence permitted himself. They were a necessity. With the broken and re-broken ribs, the broken wrist that didn’t heal right, the rheumatism in his hands and all the other injuries from the minor motorcycle accidents he kept getting into Lawrence would have been in a lot of pain, especially towards the end of his life.Hot baths would have been the easiest, quickest form of pain relief.
