I suppose I am in the minority where i like both the PJO movies and the series even as a book reader.

I personally prefer the movies more personally because I love Sean Bean as Zeus and Logan Lerman as Percy but the series is also nice.

They are the own thing and there are stuff there you could enjoy even if they do not follow the books page by page.
