I understand hating that babysitter, because oh she got on my nerves. It was a 100x worse than the whole Tiw charade and I was tearing up just thinking about the abuse Qinn went through.
He was a kid as curious as anybody else at that age. He was loud, asked questions, cried, and then was silenced.
But I equally blame his parents, if not more. They never checked up on Qinn when it was necessary, never thought of asking or checking the security cameras before meeting the psychiatrist, and didn't have any idea about not only the verbal, or mental, but even the physical abuse Qinn was going through. I know, it is hard being working parents who constantly worry about the future, and want their kids to have a secure, independent one.
But kids need their parents, especially in a age that young. Not only that, they never even approached the idea of trying to reconcile with Qinn after getting rid of the babysitter. I think it was mostly because they were ashamed of their negligence and weren't responsible enough at the time to be able to bear that pain.
But Qinn still grew up the way he did, because of all the things he faced as a kid. He raised walls so high, it became almost impossible for him to be able to look above those walls himself at some point.
He was a kid shaped by abuse, negligence, and a major lack of intimacy which are the basic requirements for a healthy childhood and healthy transitioning into adulthood.
I am glad that Qinn got to meet Duang, who took his world for a spin, while also giving him a space where he could just be.
Duang was tailor-made for Qinn. Just the way Qinn was for Duang.
Qinn wasn't someone who had no control over his emotions, he was someone who never got the chance to come to terms with his own emotions and learn how to be with them in the first place, because a space safe enough to do that was taken away from him at a very young age.
That whole scene with Qinn tearing up seeing his younger self made me shed a good few tears too, for many reasons more than one. The biggest one being the realisation that he wasn't alone anymore. He now had someone who would willingly hug him whenever he wanted. He now had someone who would shower him with love and kisses and intimacy without even having to ask for it. And he most of all, he now had someone who would never wrong him the way he was wronged by everyone else in his life.
Qinn got his Duang, but a lot of people aren't lucky enough to have that.
It's a sad thing to think about.
