In NPMD when the gang are all going to the Waylon House to set up The Prank and everyone walks past the pit, apparently Richie is doing the Naruto run and Pete keeps hitting him telling him to stop. Meanwhile Ruth is keeps going “you’re being too loud”. I learned this from the audio commentary. I love those beautiful nerds.
I do love me a good "regulus is the heart of the lion!!!!! jegulus!!!!!" but guys. GUYS. BLACK BROTHERS PLEASE 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Sirius is also a gryffindor, therfore, he could also be the lion. Regulus means everything to him!!!!! he's his baby brother!!!!! his heart!!!!!!!
im not against things being romantic, but I feel like so many fiction works heavily lean on romance. Romantic love isn't the only form of love, and I feel like it would be nice to explore familial, platonic, and all other sorts of love more because they're also incredibly important
plus like aromantic representation if we make the characters aro
anyway Regulus = Sirius' heart 🙂↕️🙂↕️🙂↕️ ty goodbye
Pick a scene/chapter/whatever from one of your fics (or I'll suggest one!) and add any commentary you feel like. Why that line? How come this plot twist? What does the eyebrow waggle MEAN?!?! I want the dirt and I can only smash my face up against the glass of your stories so hard before I start to leave smudges.
Tagged by @sorrygoldfish and @gatesofminrathous can we be in some weird three-way handshaking over the brocos. I feel like our most recent updates are all very on theme. Tagging @thewyvernrising and @qaanngi. Maybe you guys can even do this on Tuesday lmao.
Thanks especially to Goldfish for suggesting these questions:
I would love to hear some TMT thoughts about writing different iterations of the same OC, if that seems interesting to you. Do you think of the Thedas version of Camina and the modern au version of Camina as the same? Does putting her in different stories let you explore different parts of her character? Do you have a favorite Cam moment? Did you intentionally set up any parallels? Is this too many questions? 😅
I don't think this is too many questions at all, and I'm very happy to answer them under the cut!
I've always been really in awe of the peeps who make different OCs to put in their ships and fics, and I see the draw because it gives you more dynamics to play around with. But for me, once I sort of make the ship, they're more or less set in my mind. Shipping monogamy forever, I guess. So I never once considered having a different OC in Halfway vs. Inertia. BUT I don't think the Cams are the same! And I don't think they really can be because people are so shaped by their experiences and histories that the fact their experiences are different mean they have to be different by default, you know? I think finding parallels and using those to drive character help you get close, but even on my best day, I think Lucanis is probably a little out of character in my au. Which is fine! I'm here to have fun, and I do feel like he's recognizable? Don't tell me if I'm wrong.
For me, in sort of transplanting Cam from Thedas to the modern au, I just had to decide what aspects of personality were most important. I think very much that at her core, she's the same in what she values and her approach to things. Thedas Camina would love to have modern au Camina's problems though lmao. Camina has a very strong sense of justice and responsibility; she's got an overactive guilt complex; she's kind even when she doesn't want to be; she's direct and practical; and above all, she's an advocate for the happiness of the people around her. A lot of these traits translate very well into the job of a teacher, and they're also things that are easy to push a little harder to give us GOOD FLAWS. In the Thedas version of Cam, she's got a lot of external things going on, so a lot of the internal takes a backseat. In the modern au, the world stakes are so much lower, so I had to turn up some of these aspects of who she is in order to generate plot.
So that sense of responsibility that serves her so well in Thedas and as part of the Veilguard gets dialed up and twisted a little bit into her work as a teacher. She's burnt out from taking on too much. That overactive guilt complex we see play out, especially in Act 3 of Inertia, gets swapped from Harding to Varric and just adds to the guilt and shame she feels about the burnout. But there are some things that simply didn't work in transferring her to a modern au. It would make no sense for her not to have family in a modern au, and I already knew I was killing off Lucanis's parents, so I opted to go a different direction and gave Cam a messy family situation instead. I spent a long time thinking about what might make sense, and would lead to the same...level of hyperindependence that is sort of her trademark in Thedas, too. I didn't quite plan all the parallels with Lucanis; it just ended up working out. I continue to just never outline anything and fly by the seat of my pants and be thrilled when shit works out.
As for my favorite Cam moment, I love love love Inertia Cam and her giving over the Crossroads to the elves. It is such a ballsy move, and really does make the most sense to me. I think that is pretty much the thesis of her character right there. In Halfway, my favorite Camina moment (besides every time she flips off Davrin - those two besties are my fave) is with Will right after her surgery. She's forcing Will to watch a million episodes of Gilmore Girls, and then gets called out for her refusal to accept help. For me, it's a really lovely moment of friendship, and I think we all need to be reminded sometimes that being a friend is inconvenient, and that people do the friendship stuff anyway, and that's love. I want to talk desperately about SPOILERS, but Cam's got a lot of good shit coming up in the next bit, and I'm both scared and excited for it.
In short, they're different. I like the differences, and I do think that it gives me something more to explore as a writer. I feel like I learn new shit about Cam every time I put her in a Situation. But, it's kind of fun to compare the two Treviso arcs now that they're all written, and I'm like...yeah...both of these things follow the same logic. Very different! A lot the same.
Never too many questions. I love my child. She needs therapy so badly.
I’ve been learning german for two years and I got a tiktok about german pet names on my fyp
so apparently one of them is “hase”, which translates to rabbit (my teacher usually translates it to hare but it could be a context thingy) (germans in the crowd feel free to correct/confirm)
with the whole rabbit/running theme in andreil’s storyline…do with that information what you will
