Cassandra Darke by Posy Simmond’s Review
Cassandra Darke is the highly anticipated new release from Posy Simmonds, a cartoonist that worked for The Guardian in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
Simmond’s is a fantastic creator, able to draw you into her stories with her stunning illustration alone. She perfectly sets each scene and conveys the personality and emotion of her characters with her writing and artwork.
Darke is the anti-heroine you never knew you needed. She really is Scrooge… in a skirt, making this an amazing Christmas present… The story follows Cassandra, a self-absorbed and reclusive art dealer who just can’t seem to keep herself out of bother. Through Cassandra we are taken on a wild journey through London. The story keys us into the culture and crime that surrounds the area.
You will laugh, you will cry and you’ll be enthralled through to the very last page.
If you’re in Leeds, England during the release of Gumballs (trade paperback), make sure to stop in OK COMICS and get this free signed bookplate that comes with your purchase! Limited supply.

My Favourite Thing Is Monsters - Emil Ferris
My god - this book was everything I hoped it would be and so much more. The artwork alone is a major selling point for this book, before we even get to the story inside.
Following the life of a young girl with a troubled up bringing this book takes you on so many different twists and turns. It really keeps you wanting more. As a child who is bullied in school and sees herself as an outcast - a monster - she really pulls you in and you can really place yourself in her shoes.
I would highly recommend this to any graphic novel reader - or even someone who is a fan of art!
