This is an idea that came about rather organically: I WAS stressing out about this concept, and it was giving me creative block. Hence... make a strip ABOUT the thing that's giving me blockage. Huzzah! This one, I need to add a LOT of special thanks to for inspiration. There's Chic and Dean Young's BLONDIE. Gary Trudeau's DOONESBURY, General 1920s and 1930 cartoons, but also a wink nod to Chuck Jones and Looney Tunes. And finally, the work of Robert Crumb and Harvey Pekar. This was a LOT of fun to draw, and looks a LOT different in color over on PATREON!

No need to tell me, I know the sketch is messy and bad. So, THIS is a thing that’s happening. A few months ago, I was invited to join UNLIKELY HEROES STUDIOS from publisher, Laurie Foster! They produce some really cool books, had some fun plans for “Finding Dee”, AND she’s been editing my novels, so we already had a good working relationship. There was every reason to say “yes”, so I did. So later, when Laurie Foster and I were talking about all the different ways to make the announcement, we went over a few ideas. Then THIS occured to me. I mean, "Finding Dee" IS about my everyday life, so what better way to announce the comic strip joining the studio then with an actual comic strip! Now, with this announcement, comes a BRIEF hiatus for a few weeks as I prep for what’s needed for that NEXT big announcement, so bear with me. I think you’ll all be excited for what’s coming. :)

Before anyone asks, while we DO have Lightsabers, we do NOT have Jedi robes and so could not literally do this. It’s a parody of a similar incident in which we were both decked out in Star Wars hats and T-Shirts and assorted do-dads and got asked the same question.  This was one I debated doing as it kinda puts a time stamp on the strip, which is why we don’t mention WHICH Star Wars film we’re going to see.

This happened last year at the Orlando Megacon. I was set to be on a panel with an industry who’s who of professionals that were also representative of the LGBTQ+ community. It was supposed to be Marc Andreyko, Cat Staggs, Amanda Deibert, Phil Jimenez, Tara Ford, Tee Franklin, Jose Villarubia and Me. It turned out to be just me. What happened was that this panel was on a Friday and it happened to be the same day as the premiere in Hollywood for WONDER WOMAN and many of the guests had an invitation, so the panel was postponed to the next day. Some of the other creators were told this but nobody told ME and nobody told the fans who showed up, so I had a full hour to fill by myself. I answered as many questions as I could and told stories and related my own experiences coming out as Trans in the comics industry. But the very first thing I did on a stage by myself with a half-filled room of convention goers was sing Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey with no music. Because THAT’S how I roll. ;)
