"Goodween," Cotta said, frowning. "Pass me the scotch."

The younger man handed over the glass. "Unlike you to drink on the job, sir."

"We're off hours," Cotta sipped the amber liquid. "Besides, I need this to survive. The victim left a coded message, and…"

Notebooks with old handwriting scattered on the desk, full of gibberish.

"Perhaps I can help," Goodween offered. "My father was a cryptographer in the Second World War. He taught me a bit."

Cotta gaped. "You surprise me every time."

Goodween shrugged.

"Then let's get to work." Cotta sat up. "We'll crack this goddamn case!"

"Understood, Detective!"

A Collection of Maps

A collection of five maps and three charts describing land owned by Jonah Horry in South Carolina. The first four maps were drawn from surveys made by John Goddard in 1793; the last map was drawn from a survey made by John Horry Dent in 1836.
