Tip for other taste sensitive spoonies: natural charcoal tooth and gum powder! It has almost no flavor, just light mint enough to cover the charcoal taste. I got mine from inVitamin on Amazon for only $13

Tip for other taste sensitive spoonies: natural charcoal tooth and gum powder! It has almost no taste at all, only a light mint flavor to cover the taste of charcoal. I got mine from inVitamin for $13 on Amazon and one small tub has lasted both my sister and I for almost a year! Bonus: my teeth are even whiter than when I was using whitening toothpaste but without the offensively strong mint flavor of normal toothpaste!

This roast chicken smell makes me wanna puke but I know I'm gonna love the taste of it so I must endure
"I like this food" = I can eat it fine at certain times of the day as long as I don't think about it too much
I can smell what you had for breakfast 3 days ago. No don't worry I'm pretty sure I'm the only one
No I'm not pregnant I just have the nose of a very picky cat
"I really like this food" = I actually enjoy either the taste or texture at certain times of the day with other foods to contrast so that it doesn't get Too Much
Can track a person wearing perfume like a bloodhound
Adding hot spices to all your food so the nausea gets replaced by heat / slight pain

So, as I mentioned earlier I have had a bad headache/migraine for a couple of days now... Well we just got new downstairs neighbors, and I guess they were using their stove or something (which is somehow connected with our vents as well?) because there was an awful burning smell coming into the house (we tried to trace it back to something but couldn’t find anything wrong), and so I lit some candles to try to mask the smell and now it just smells like burning and too strong candle smells gross fragrance all mixed together (’cos I used 3 different candles which was a mistake) and it’s making my headache SOOOO MUCH WORSE. I cannot stand how sensitive I am to smells. They are so inescapable... My headache is just going to continue on to another day at this rate... ;’(
I have a really hard time with the smells of cooking causing a meltdown with me and I've tried just about everything to avoid it from happening by using smells I like to plugging my nose. But the place I go to escape (my room) the smells of cooking always get in there. I open my windows, spray smells I like. I just can't handle it though. Then my mom gets angry at me when I have a meltdown that I can't control. I'm so lost as to what to do anymore. B(

I’m really sorry your mum is treating you this way. It’s not okay for her to get angry at you for having a meltdown. I hope you are able to get away from here to somewhere safe.
Smells are a super tough area when it comes to sensory regulation, as they really do permeate everything and can’t be avoided or escaped from in the way light, noise and touch can.
Coffee beans are often used to cancel out scents, so you may find it useful to carry coffee beans around with you in a small cloth pouch. You can smell it/hold it up to your nose whenever you need to get rid of a scent that’s bothering you.
If there are certain scents that you find soothing rather than overwhelming, it may be helpful to keep something with that scent on it with you. We have some ideas for things like this in our aromatherapy tag[x]. You could also use a scent diffuser in your room to try to override the unpleasant scents.
There’s also a guide here[x] for making your own aromatherapy jewellery that you can put whatever scents you like into.

So im in the process of trying to figure out what the heck my sensory system is doing, and i was wondering about some things. 1. Basically if anyone else can taste the spice in a food, its too much for me. Could that be a sensory thing? 2. Mint Toothpaste and mouthwash physically hurt my mouth, could that be a sensory thing? 3. Great blog, have a lovely day/night/decade
1. Yes, it could be! Many overresponsive people are really sensitive to spicy foods (myself included), especially if they’re taste/smell defensive.
2. This too! (and seconding the myself included :P )
Both of those could very well be sensory things!
