The first two pieces of Lemuria Phase II are done and here you get the coral reefs! An incredibly crowded mess of sessile and mobile critters trying to get by. One of my whales also sometimes visits here but since it's 11 m long I only show it's lower jaw/skull here...
63 Species made it in here, all created by the community and curated by me and the Lemuria council. Besides corals and sponges you also get a first look at our new major reefbuilding clade, the worm snails, more on that in the next mural.
For people not aware, Lemuria is a spec evo project of the #paleostream community. It follows the evolution of organisms living on the fictional continent of Lemuria (fusion of Madagascar and India) from the Cretaceous to the Pleistocene. #LemuriaChallenge
It’s time to give the animals of the Cenozoic a day in the limelight…
My first time opening paleoart commissions! Please be sure to read everything, all information and more examples here (my current examples for poses/scenes/etc. are not very diverse but I can definitely do different things for commissions). Please ask questions if you’re unsure of anything! One slot open right now.
Currently collecting form submissions for review, slot taker will be chosen at my discretion after a few forms are submitted and work will be started soon after. Thanks for considering!
Also younger oligarchs like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg...
My 25 years of palaeoart chronology…
In 2022 Jason Osborne and I reconstructed the Early Oligocene toothed whale Ediscetus osbornei, and here is the artwork I created for Jason (bottom image is the Draft 1 drawing). The two Ediscetus are chasing a school of Spanish mackerel.
Another New Year means another obligatory piece of holiday art. :) Since 2026 is the Year of the Horse, I decided to choose one of the many extinct horse species. This is Mesohippus bairdi, which lived during the Early Oligocene in North America. Unlike earlier horses, Mesohippus had three-toed feet with hooves, with the middle hoof larger than the side hooves. During the Oligocene, climate change reduced the area of rainforests, forcing ancient horses to adapt to life in open spaces. Reducing the number of toes is one such adaptation. However, Mesohippus were much smaller than modern horses, and their low-crowned teeth were better suited to eating soft foods like fruit rather than tough grass.
Last year, I continued to develop my digital skills. I hope this year will be just as fruitful, if not more so. Happy New Year!
